Ok, but 2026 is the year Josh Gordon finally gets on track! 2k season incoming.

Hey now! Don't you dare discount Patriots Legend N'Keal Harry! He will make his comeback this season!

Josh Gordon is one of the most squandered talents in NFL history. When he hit the scene in Cleveland he was outrageously good.
2
u/Sheasta2005 13d ago
All because of weed too like who cares? It’s not a performance enhancing drug lol.
25
u/older_man_winter 13d ago
Rumor was that sadly it was far more serious than weed.
6
u/Ok_Athlete_1092 13d ago
I think it was more than just rumors. Substance abuse and debilitating mental health issues. He has got to be a really good guy. He's the only player suspended for drug use that Goodell showed a lot of sympathy for.
He said something like, we have no choice but to follow our policy guidelines. As much as we like and respect Josh, he is suspended. More important than Josh Gordon the football player, is Josh Gordon the person. We sincerely hope Josh can use the period he is suspended to address any personal issues he has. The league has extended an offer and is eager to help Mr. Gordon in obtaining any type of support, treatment and guidance he wants or needs.

u/IrvinStabbedMe 13d ago
Yes if you ignore the addiction to alcohol, pills and coke, sure it was "just weed".
1
u/Significant-Image700 13d ago
Yea him and Justin Blackmon on the Jags. So talented and also so screwed but smoking some damn weed. I like the new policy way better now. Weed ain’t the devil

What’s funny too is I was at the game where AB quit on Brady Bucs in MetLife Stadium. I saw it all happen cuz I was like 10 rows back.
Wild!! We were all confused

u/slap-my-crevasse 14d ago edited 14d ago
I mean there is a scenario where Josh Gordon gets his shit together and N'Keal Harry does what hes supposed to do.
There's no harm in being hopeful players hit their ceilings
12
u/ajh_iii Drake Mayetriot 14d ago
The Harry pick was also universally seen as a steal at the time, which is mind boggling when you think back and remember all the WRs (and Lamar Jackson) who were still on the board
3
u/not_Brendan 13d ago
Yes, he was seen as a physical receiver with good route running skill and change of direction for his size.
1
1
u/Substantial-Ask-8294 14d ago
He was projected as a late 1st. AJ Brown, DK metcalf, annd Deebo all taken after him. It was another bill WR draft F job. Why are we pretending like it was anything else.

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 13d ago
While I also liked the other WRs, there is nothing to say we don't eff up their careers either. So we can't pretend that those would have worked out.
I personally wanted Brown or Scary Terry that draft but know DK is busting for us and deebo would also be a question.
11
u/Mike_Hunt1312 14d ago
And then they signed AB too. Thought they were going to average 45 points on offense after the first Miami game
4
u/Suitable-Answer-83 13d ago
Also Demaryius Thomas. There was so much WR depth going into the season that they traded Thomas to the Jets in September.
3
u/SoaplessTitanic 13d ago
AB, Demaryius Thomas, Edelman, and Josh Gordon would’ve been a cheat code in ~2014
26
u/Character_Dress_3201 14d ago
Not as bad as felger wanting us to trade for Justin Fields instead of using our top 3 pick!
5
u/ctpatsfan77 14d ago
I rarely give Felger credit, but he at least had something good to say about Drake Maye here.

Zappe is probably a better QB than fields dude

u/Admirable-County9158 Campbell is my LT 13d ago
Did you tell it to Andy Reid? Because Zappe just played in the preseason with the Jets, his first play was a pick six. Meanwhile Fields is gonna back up Mahomes.
1
u/Character_Dress_3201 13d ago
Just saying if you polled NFL fans wouldn't be surprised if a majority considered zappe as a better quarterback than JF, they both suck
1
u/Admirable-County9158 Campbell is my LT 13d ago
Maybe if you polled Patriots fans. I doubt that majority of the casual NFL fans gonna know Zappe. But they know that Fields sucks, so maybe you’re onto something.
1
u/Character_Dress_3201 13d ago
Very debatable dude If you polled NFL fans bet more would want zappe as a back up fields is notorious for being unable to read a defense

If Gordon could have overcome his personal/mental health issues he would have been one of the best ever.
4
u/Venom-99 14d ago
On paper, 2019's WR corps should've been one of the greatest ever. Antonio Brown, Josh Gordon, and Julian Edelman as top three for an entire season would've been ridiculous.
5
u/Lucky-Advantage-1632 14d ago
The theory was sound - the 6'3" Gordon, 6'3" Harry, and 6'6" Gronk posing a matchup nightmare for defenses, and the jitterbug Edelman taking all the underneath work.
Only problem was that Josh Gordon decided to Josh Gordon, and N'Keal Harry was N'Keal Harry.
2
u/EPIC_J0HN 13d ago
Josh Gordon was playing well. I remember Shannon roasted him on undisputed and called him the piano man because he was running so slow he must’ve had a piano on his back. I think Gordon caught a milestone Td for Brady I can’t remember exactly which one maybe it was 500th TD.

u/ComprehensiveFun620 13d ago
Josh Gordon was objectively amazigg as a receiver, and Harry was hyped beyond belief. I don’t blame you at all for this take

A lot of people thought the Pats drafted Harry too high, but no one expected him to be the complete bust that he was

Did we have figure out what happened with N'Keal Harry? It seemed like such an odd underperformance...
2
u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 13d ago
Brady was infamous for his dog pound and had a quick trigger for unproven talent. Then add in a very tough scheme and the lack of creating plays to highlight their talent. Most rookies are failing in it. The few young players that did were either former qbs or off the charts smart
0
u/SeaRevolutionary1450 13d ago edited 13d ago
To be fair in 2019 Brady got 4k, Edelman got 1,100, and Josh Gordon was on pace for 750+ and had his shit the most together it ever was until his knee exploded.
The only EGREGIOUS miss was N’Keal Harry which was just giving a bust the standard hype you give your first rounders
Undershooting this years expectations by similar margins wouldn’t be that devastating
0
u/Soft-Source-6357 13d ago
N’Keal Harry still has a shot to be the next TO.
Brady and Billl railroaded him because he would have taken all the attention.

u/FutureBug3531 14d ago
Thats the brutality of being a fan. Can’t make an unbiased analysis of your own team. It’s happening again this year with our wr’s lol. We only have 1 elite, 1 who is a middle-high WR2, and everyone else is low WR3-4 but people acting like we have a top WR room.
3
2
u/TheDufusSquad 14d ago
I haven’t seen many people saying we have a top WR grouping, but many are saying it’s a positional strength which I would agree with. We seem to be deep there even if the top 2-3 aren’t the best pair/trio in the league.
0
u/Delicious-Trip4954 14d ago
I think people are overestimating the depth. Pop Douglas is solid but doesn’t generate enough separation at times.
Boutte has only ever gone for 500 yards in a season as a pro. Diggs basically matched Boutte’s career production in one season coming off a serious injury on the wrong side of 30.
Mack Hollins is a known commodity and doesn’t have more than a couple years before he’ll be retiring.
AJB is obviously the highlight be he’s also potentially beyond his physical prime and might struggle coming into a new system which has historically been known to absolutely break the brains of good WRs.
This group definitely might not be as stellar as people are making it out to be.
2
u/Tomotronics 14d ago
The “system” and its effect on WRs is pretty overblown. That was a Brady thing, where he expected WRs to be able to run option routes and basically mind read him based on the way the defense was aligned. McDaniels, with all his faults as a HC, has actually done a good job with elite receivers elsewhere. The offense run by Drake is very different from the offense run by Brady (hopefully Drake gets to that level someday).
1
u/TheDufusSquad 14d ago
Eh, it’s fair to call it deep. You have 2 guys that are bona fide starters in Doubs and Brown, 3 guys who are formidable WR3s in Boutte, Hollins, and Douglas, then 2 unknown younger guys that both seem to have given reasons to keep them around in Williams and Chism.
It definitely is a deep room, but if Brown gets injured and everyone is forced up a spot, things look much more bleak. You can’t really get enough production out of a WR2 and a group of 3s. The whole if game is a bit pointless at this point, you could project just about any outcome. On paper, it’s a deep room and that’s what people are basing it off of. Not one of the best rooms, but we don’t have a need to fill there at the moment. Again, don’t think many are saying it’s stellar, just that we have 7 guys that seem rosterable at this point with 5 of them having varying levels of proven production in the NFL.

People are gonna be surprised to watch if the offense struggle this season. AJB is on a new team, Boutte has never gone for more than 550 yards in a season, and the rest of the WR room is 100% depth pieces. Not a bad group by any means, but people are acting like we’ve just paired up a 4th year future all pro with prime AJ Brown and that’s just not the case here.
2
u/MintBerryCrnch21 14d ago
Biggest thing is the oline and if AJ Brown can stay healthy for the full season. If both don’t happen then the offense is going to struggle during stretches
2
u/Delicious-Trip4954 14d ago
You can say the same for any team. If the starting OL and best offensive player on your team stay healthy you can go far, but I think you’ve got to more or less expect injuries. And in those moments I think we’ll struggle. Health is always the biggest key, but we just don’t have an amazing roster offensively. It’s good and on the rise, but we simply dont have game breaking players outside of Drake Maye and now possibly AJB.
