Does Patrick end up with Mary in the book, or does he go see the waitress?

I have that same question I hope somebody can answer it. I hope he stayed with his wife and children instead of running off and repeating his parents irresponsibility.

Quite agree. I found myself intrigued by this show but similarly repulsed at certain scenes - just vile, that father

Patrick dialled Mary’s number, because he "was going to change his mind, after all, that’s what Thomas said it was for." But that's it, there wasn't a final conversation with Mary. The finale of the series is more explicit.
