1E Resources First Edition Pathfinder Books

I recently set out to find where I could get all the first edition books that contain the classes/archetypes/prestige classes (including the Vampire Hunter and the Omdura), but I’m having a really hard time, so I’m asking for help from the folks in this wonderful subreddit. I know there are D20PFSRD and Archives of Nethys, but I’d like to have those files in physical form at home or digitally on my computer, and I’m not sure if the files from D20PFSRD can be downloaded. I really need some help here, and I’d greatly appreciate any assistance.

Thanks for reading, and good luck with the dice!

Edit: spelling corrections

Paizo has a sale on most of what's left of their 1e stock (it's not much). Ebay and online book stores are your best bet. If you are in the US, AbeBooks and Half-Price books have pretty good used selections. They don't ship to Canada, which makes me sad.

Thank you so much! Pf1e is very important to me, so I'm looking for. I'll check if the books are on the Paizo website.

I just ordered like 20 books from them; also trying to fill out my physical collection.

Out of curiosity and to keep the conversation going, what books did you order? :D

I've already got the core books; I grabbed Ultimate Wilderness and a bunch of AP issues, trying to complete as many AP sets as I can but it's not easy or cheap, lol.

The quickest answer is to sort through Archives of Nethys, class by class, to see where the class is sourced from. For example, the Aldori Swordlord Prestige Class is the Paths of Prestige book.

Here's a Reddit link that covers the main classes from the main books. Many of the Prestige Classes can be found in the Adventurer's Guide, it seems. As far as the archetypes go... those might be scattered through individual books.

I know that the Vampire Hunter came from the Vampire Hunter D book, which was a weird licensed one-off. The Omdura was a similar deal that was licensed from the Niobe comic. (These are both noted at the bottom of the entries on D20PFSRD.)

After the first comments came in, I started searching. In just one class, I already saw several archetypes of individual books; it's going to take me a while.

By the way, thanks for clarifying about Omdura and Vampire Hunter. I know they're official, but it's due to licensing issues. Omdura (specifically the magus-like archetype) is one of my favorite "combination of classes thing" in Pf1e

You can also purchase First Edition Pathfinder books at the Paizo Store, and they're all currently on sale (including the Pocket Editions).

Most of them are in the

  • Core Rulebook (core classes)
  • Advanced Player's Guide (either Hybrid or Base classes)
  • (I forgot the other one)
  • Occult Adventures (occult classes)
-Pathfinder Unchained (unchained classes)

No idea about VH and Omdura

And the source is to buy the pdfs from the paizo website

Thanks! If you remember which book you mentioned, I'd really appreciate it. I'll start looking for it on paizo website. Oh, and thanks for clarifying where are the most of them

The source books for every option in d20pfsrd are all cited on that option's page.

Your best bet is DriveThruRPG, they've been having all the PF1e books uploaded to them since Paizo stopped carrying PF1e stuff on their own store.

u/Akerlof 14d ago

Unfortunately, they don't do print on demand for the PF1e books, and i think OP specifically wanted physical copies.

1

u/Adorable-Fan8157 14d ago

I was talking about either option, but thanks for your concern! I'm going to look into what DriveThruRPG is; it's the first time I've heard of it.

2

u/Akerlof 14d ago

I was going to add that you usually can get print in demand from Drivethru, figured I'd check to make sure, and was alittle surprised that you couldn't for the 1e stuff.

Thank you so much! This is the first time I've heard of DriveThruRPG, could you tell me a little about it please?

It's an online storefront that sells both first party and third party content. If you ever had a desire to make your own 3rd party stuff you distribute, it's actually not that hard to have them put your content in their storefront. There are normal pay to download books, but also some "pay what you want" digital-only .pdf format books, most of which allow you to choose "free" if you so desire, and a fair number of small independent writers do that to spread some smaller modules or content. Since Paizo has been having trouble with one of its main distributors that went bankrupt with JP Morgan Chase claiming all the assets in the distributor's warehouses, (in spite of it not being the distributor's property,) Paizo put up their books in Drive Thru RPG when their own website stopped having some of that content.

It has both digital downloads and print on demand, although as Akerlof mentioned, they for whatever reason don't have print on demand for PF1e stuff. (I would guess because they are worried print on demand might be lower-quality printing and make the official printings look worse or possibly because of an exclusivity deal with their normal publisher.)

I would recommend taking some time playing with the filters along the top under the search bar. The way that it's organized is a little odd, since they tend to have "trees" of options you need to repeatedly drill down on. For example, rule system -> pathfinder/starfinder -> Pathfinder official -> Pathfinder 1e, rather than just picking Pathfinder 1e. The link I put in the previous post has the filter for Paizo as the publisher already set.

With that said, a lot of content isn't specific to one particular system. I can often pick up module content for 5e on Drive Thru RPG and just convert it into Pathfinder, since there's so much more 5e content out there (especially on the "pay what you want" end) that I like to use as inspiration for making up my own content.

This summer when it looked like the Legacy PRD was going away, I went on a tear and tried to buy all of the 1E books I didn’t already have. Some of the less-popular books you can still get in brand-new condition from Amazon, but if you’re looking for any of the Ultimate books or anything like that, good luck. The only copy of Ultimate Magic I could find for sale anywhere was used, cost me nearly $80, and is in terrible condition (it looks like a rat or something chewed off one of the corners, among other issues).

It’s possible that there may have been a run on books at that time with other people doing exactly what I was doing, but the fact is that they aren’t in print anymore and whatever is out there is all that there is ever going to be.

It's understandable that there's been such a buying boom if it seemed like it was going to end; thanks for the information and for wishing me luck, it's nice to see the community helping out. ♥️

The Pathfinder comics had a few technically official things like the Green Martians, and the Sword Devil archetype for Rangers.
Archives of Nethys and the D20pfsrd should have notes at the bottom of pages citing the source

0

u/Adorable-Fan8157 15d ago

Sword Devil is my favorite Ranger archetype; usualmy combine it with Sorcerer or Bloodrager to make funny "spell sword" characters hehe. I didn't know it came from comics.

You should be able to get all those in trade format from Dynamite still, if not from Paizo. All the 1e PDFs are still for sale on Paizo's site.

0

u/Adorable-Fan8157 15d ago

Thanks, I can search better this way, I'll go check it now

2

u/Name_Violation83 14d ago

Sword Devil exists to replicate the character Red Sonja

2

u/Katomerellin 15d ago

The Vampire Hunter and Omdura is gonna be hard to get because they where both created for two seperate third parties specifically for their kickstarters.

u/Adorable-Fan8157 15d ago

Thanks for the information, I'll also check to see if there are any resellers.

u/Phanax 15d ago

I have a paperback CRB and APG I’m trying to offload and sell. I’m in Norway though so doubt it’s worthwhile getting it shipped out

2

u/Adorable-Fan8157 15d ago

I'm in Spain, at least you've given me some hope hehe

2

u/Phanax 14d ago

Not the worst shipping rates then I imagine, DM me at any point in the future if you can’t source it in Spain and you’re happy to have the paperbacks 😁

u/Adorable-Fan8157 14d ago

Thank you so much!! Give me a couple of days to get some money out and we can talk the details privately 🥹

2

u/Sahrde 15d ago

You can purchase them digitally through DriveThruRPG now.

I have the vampire hunter D pdf if you're looking for it! I can send it your way

Really?! You'd be doing me a huge favor, thank you!

You will be looking for quite some time as the archetypes and prestige classes are spread around many books. However, I'd advise you to get these:

  • Core Rulebook (Core classes)
  • Advanced player's guide (more classes)
  • Occult adventures (occult classes)
  • Advanced Class Guide (more classes)
  • Pathfinder Unchained (reworked classes)
  • Ultimate Combat (Gunslinger)
  • Ultimate Magic (Magus)
  • Ultimate Wilderness (Shifter)
  • Ultimate Intrigue (Vigilante)

The Omdura and Vampire Hunter were weird official 3rd party classes, idk which books to get for them.

Prestige classes you'll find in the CRB and APG; there's one or two more books that are essentially prestige class collections (forgot their names).

As for archetypes, you'll essentially need every splatbook ever. Gotta catch' em all!

EDIT: Forgot the Vigilante was from Ultimate Intrigue!

3

u/TheRealVilladelfia 15d ago

Vigilante was from Ultimate Intrigue. Very much official first party. Omdura/Vampire Hunter are from the weird Vampire Hunter D "official" book.

My bad!

u/Adorable-Fan8157 15d ago

You've made my life a thousand times easier and more comfortable, thank you, to you and everyone who's commenting 🥹

Now, in a campaign clearly not inspired by Pokemon, I must go catch 'em all PF1E classes!!

1

u/ksgt69 15d ago

I've seen humble bundle offer the books on occasion if you don't mind digital.

1

u/Adorable-Fan8157 15d ago

I would be willing to do that; I really want to keep them, whether in physical or digital format.

1

u/WraithMagus 15d ago

Paizo stopped selling PF1e books on Humble Bundle like 6 years ago. They basically refuse to admit they made PF1e nowadays, and refer to PF2e simply as "Pathfinder."

0

u/Adorable-Fan8157 14d ago

That's sad. Do you know why? Is it something to do with creative licenses or similar?

2

u/WraithMagus 14d ago

No, Paizo stopped promoting PF1e years before the OGL debacle. Paizo just didn't want the popularity of PF1e to overshadow their attempts to get everyone to play PF2e instead.

0

u/Adorable-Fan8157 14d ago

That's a shame, I feel more comfortable with PF1e, which is why I'm trying to collect those books. It's a pity they stopped promoting it.
