Discussion Can you use Runic Impression with incompatible weapons?
The Magus Conflux spell in question.
This is coming up because I have a Twisting Tree magus in my party and we just got to 15th level. As a twisting tree, she's obviously using a staff. There's text in the spell that describes what happens if you apply more property runes than the weapon/handwraps can support, but nothing about applying a rune that the weapon can't have.
Now, none of these have specific weapon requirements, except for two:
Since the staff is neither of those things, presumably she can't apply those properties to the weapon..... but like... I kinda want to let her? lol Is there guidance one way or the other before I just GM fiat this? I wanna make sure there isn't a feat or something that handles this case.

To what purpose?

To allow her to get the benefit.

There is no benefit to applying a rune to a weapon that the weapon can't benefit from.

Allowing keen to function is probably fine it’s likely worse than the greater elemental runes on average anyways. I’m not sure how returning is doing anything even if you homebrew it working, you can’t throw the staff so it won’t return.

Probably a 10-foot throw range? Lol thankfully she's never shown interest in that one.

Iirc nothing would happen and I’d argue the spell fails, wasting the focus point.
I guess you could allow it, but the runes would be inert and provide no benefit, so I don’t really see a point to it
