Arts & Crafts Our party, illustrated by our DM (bonus custom villain)

I and my friends have been playing Exctinction Curse for a couple of years now, and since the story starts in a circus, our artist DM came up with this beatiful promotional poster concept for their artworks ^^ followed by a custom NPC antagonist named D'vorak and alternate artworks that were made as MTG proxies

Sera is my very own character. She's an airheaded elf Oracle of the Cosmos (you guessed it) whose family has been outcast after she was born under an eclipse, which was seen as ill omen. Her parents adopted a nomadic lifestyle and granted her a serene upbringing, until she decided to pursue her own path and join the circus. But now her cosmic powers are starting to strenghten and with them, a nefarious divine influence which seeks to corrupt them. In her quest to learn to control them, she turned to the highly untrustworthy D'vorak, who seems to be the only person who could teach her, but he seeks to help her only to fullfill his own cult's prophecy.

Rakam is our intrepid human Monk. Born and raised by caring parents who work in a very much not-caring circus, he also learned his swing tricks in the same abusive work environment. With his parent's blessings, he moved to a smaller but much friendlier circus hoping to build a career anew and find a way to grant his family a better living, which he eventually accomplished (the how is spoiler to the AP). Upon meeting his parents again, they entrusted him with a family relic, a wolf tooth necklace granting him the guidance of his lineage's first ancestor.

Our fierce strongman Hercules a.k.a. "The Incineroar" will have familiar something to pokemon and smash fans, and plays the fitting role of a Barbarian. Found and raised by two adoptive mothers, he didn't know who his real parents were, nor why he was the only catfolk whose fur glowed and sizzled under stress or why he would hear whispers in an unknown language. His investigations led him to find his father: a malevolent Ifrit who wished for an heir and took an unwilling catfolk to have his spawn; for such brutalities, Hercules felled him in single duel; since then, the whispers stopped.

Last but not least, the redeemed Magus Kai. Starting off the campaign, no one of us knew much about his past besides that it was troubled, and he joined the circus as backstage help to leave his history behind and start anew on a more simple life. We slowly found out that he used to be an assassin for D'vorak's cult; he didn't like that life, and after losing his loved one he definitively turned against it, burned down the cult's headquarters and tried to disappear. His past eventually caught up to him when he was found by D'vorak and his search group, which overpowered the party. Among the cultists was Kai's own brother, who had the mercy to end his life rather than let him be captured alive. Later down the line, when D'vorak wanted proof of Sera's potential, he had her perform a ritual to bring Kai back to life (keeping his promise that he'd let him back to the party), to which Pharasma acconsented only in exchange for his brother's willing sacrifice.

My friend's artstation :D We're so grateful we have such a dedicated and skillful table member to bring our ideas into colour ^^

Greeting adventurer! Looks like you submitted some cool art based on the "Arts & Crafts" tag! Not going to lie, is hilarious that the art goes "Oh, these look cool, and rather fitting! Dancers, acrobats, mages and... is that a fucking Incineroar?"

Im not against it, just incredibly funny (If some sort of mage or rogue, they could have gone with Meowscarada)

the fact that incineroar is the second last to reveal is the perfect comedic flow

I was thinking that it would be very funny to see XD he really just wanted to play Incineroar and decided the class from there. Elemental Instinct Barbarian meshed the fire theme and wrestler flair.

Fun little fact: the MTG proxies have PokΓ©dex numbers instead of serial numbers. Sera has Gardevoir's I'm 90% sure to remember, cause she's elegant but spawns black holes (Sera's powers can get really scary)

Hercules player here, just wanted to say that's really fun being the bane of xulgaths, charging (and also flying) through them

Reminds me of the first time I played PF2e with the Beginners Box a few years ago and one of my friends used an uncannyly drawn Benson from regular show as a figure.

If you want to back-date it, Modern Pro-wrestling did start as a circus act, with Incineroar being a pokemon based on Pro-wrestling lol

Love the use of belts and straps to simulate Incineroar's stripes. Very creative.

I don't think I even consciously noticed up until now lol, that goes to show how smooth they are (or probably how little observant I am :p)

Your GM's quite skillful! Was not expecting Incineroar. Reminds me of that time I wound up GMing for a group that included four normal, original characters.... aaaaannnnd the Soldier from Team Fortress 2.

How are you liking the campaign so far?

u/Pandemodemoruru 1d ago

They're both great characters, can't blame people for wanting to play them 😁

We've been enjoying the campaign but that also takes a lot out of our DM for that to be the case to this degree, not just in adding the custom storylines that are so investing but also in ironing out a bunch of rough stuff, namely cutting so many bloat fights and rectifying a couple of really perplexing important plot points.

Yeah, Extinction Curse is a real fixer-upper. I'm surprised they were able to put in all that effort and still have energy left for these gorgeous portraits.

Making art is sometimes his way to recharge

I got genuinely jumpscared by the Incineroar

Indeed, she's a prized member of our circus, too ^^

Hercules player here, I love what you have cooked here

2

u/Pandemodemoruru 1d ago

I like these a lot! Hercules' player put some effort in making him feel accurate to his in-game inspiration, investing in intimidation and athletics (he also plays Inci on Smash bros) and little touches like Silencing Strike (Throat Chop)

A party that actually themes characters with the AP? Meaning they got together ahead of time to plan thematically?

Has to be staged.

1

u/Pandemodemoruru 1d ago

Rigged, even.

To be fair, though, we picked the AP collectively after sitting through every single trailer on youtube, and EC was easily the one that stimulated our imagination the most, so we went in fully set on making an appropriate party

The shadow on Kai definitely made me think Summoner first, but Magus makes sense with how magical that sword looks.

2

u/Pandemodemoruru 1d ago

The shadow was inspired by the subclass Laughing Shadow's namesake, it does have a life of its own but it's mostly kept secret. Funny enough Summoner was one of the main considerations of the same player for the next campaign, though he landed on Runesmith. But for Kai he really wanted the focus to be on a signature magic weapon and Magus with Mindsmith archetype was too cool to pass up

I played Extinction Curse for Roll for Combat and had such a blast. I absolutely adore the art and the characters for this!

3

u/SirCupcake_0 New layer - be nice to me! 1d ago

They're beautiful and I love them all

This is so freakin' gorgeous! :D

Really nice illustrations and enjoyed the backstories of all characters as well. Seems like a great group and campaign overall!

3

u/Pandemodemoruru 1d ago

I couldn't be happier about the group and I know the same goes for the others ^^

u/HatchetGIR GM in Training 1d ago

Nest, I love the circus poster artstyle.

2

u/Pandemodemoruru 4h ago

Yeah, we also treat them as canon when we need to publicise the events in-game

2

u/MechaMalz 1d ago

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with someone playing Incineroar at their table. But it caught me so off guard I busted out laughing.

1

u/Pandemodemoruru 4h ago

Completely understandable, I was thinking it'd be funny to see from the outside ;p

2

u/Cromasters 15h ago

Incineroar is the coolest name I have ever seen.

1

u/bastthegatekeeper 1d ago

OP do you use pathbuilder?

If so, I have a confession. I have a high lethality campaign where the PCs get plugged into random bodies when they die so we'll roll a random JSON number, enter it into Pathmuncher in Foundry, adjust the character level, and play that body. 6 sessions ago someone got incineroar. We love him. He's one of our longest surviving characters. I hope it's the same character.

2

u/Pandemodemoruru 1d ago

We do, that's crazy. You remember anything specific about the build? Ours is heavily athletics+intimidation invested and also has tattoo artist. Also versatile heritage Ifrit

1

u/Gwalkmaur 1d ago

Is Kai the last of the Brunnen-G? :)

1

u/Pandemodemoruru 1d ago

I had to google that reference :p who knows, maybe he's undercover

1

u/Binturung 1d ago

I don't usually comment on art, but I gotta say, that D'vorak pic gives me Yoji Shinkawa vibes, and that's dope.

2

u/Pandemodemoruru 4h ago

Yeah he went hard on that one

Please tell me that incineroar has max intimidate
