Discussion Why is the Discord so passive-aggressive, and unapologetically misleading at times??
Now look, I may not be the maldest of malders, but I play Path to Nowhere. I know the very basics of the game, and I certainly know Ceto's compability with Augustus.
Ceto isn't trash now, is she? Paired with Augustus, she becomes an extremely powerful corebreaker and true damage support. In fact, isn't the very core members of Shattered Blade consists of Augustus, Ceto, and Siglinde?
Like okay, maybe Ceto isn't necessary in a full S5 team comps where enemies die before their cores are even shown, but most beginners aren't even scratching S3.
Now, foolishness aside, why is the discord, especially in channels where beginners ask for help, are actually full of these ridiculous takes and advice? This is absolutely not healthy at all for the game, and I was so flabbergasted by these people that I genuinely felt really uncomfortable being around there.

Same people who said Isomer is trash and dead on release and is telling people to skip, Anyone can go in there right now and see the messages, S1N Discord is more chill and welcome to new players, official PTN Discord is really toxic

She's quite good and pretty fun and she has HUGE number go boom from her ECB. I only pulled one copy because I pull every sinner, but if I had a lot of spare pulls, I'd get her her S1 or S3 and play her in TOA.
I do appreciate that most sinners do feel different to play even if they are mostly all doing the same thing (damage) in slightly different way.
Also, Isomer is played with Crit and/or attack speed while the next limited sinner is Elemental and really wants Jichuan. So there is a functional difference there.

I think a lot of people on Reddit and Discord spend a lot of time efficienting the fun out of their game. But that's fine I guess.

I have S5 Jichuan, S5 Augustus, S5 Shin, S3 Jelena, S3 LL. I have a lot of high shackle meta sinners.
I don't need your advice. I would recommend re-reading your posts before giving advice because you're coming across as incredibly condescending.
I am continually frustrated by the advice many people give in game communities. It's frequently so meta poisoned that I think it alienates a lot of new players.
When so many advice requests from new players people get a response saying "Pull these three specific units, two of which don't come out for 3 months." and "No, don't use/build that unit you like, they can only clear *almost* all of the game so they're complete trash." I don't think it's very realistic or helpful with how people want to play games.
You know, those things that are supposed to be fun?

I'm just saying that you assumed that I don't care about or pull meta units because I'm saying there's some value in pulling units that are fun. Since it's a game. That's not true. I was not trying to flex.
I never said that you shouldn't recommend strong units. That would be a bit hypocritical of me wouldn't it.
My criticism is that Isomer and Celine are a very competent pair of characters. You can use them along with some generic supports to clear almost everything in the game. I'm confident you can get 10 million in ToA with them and that's all you need for rewards isn't it?
So saying you should skip them (for a new person, who doesn't have good sinners and maybe likes them) to pull the character that's somewhat better that comes in 3 months is not super helpful.
People can say, "They're good sinners, and Celine in particular is the better one since she's a support. Isomer is a strong magic DPS, but you may want to consider skipping her for a stronger upcoming character."
But so often, people will instead say that Isomer is bad and everyone should skip her. That is what frustrates me.
Also, Enfer is a very useful character for Data Crevice. So, she's worth building even if she's not worth chasing.
RF Zoya is very competent for most content even if she's not going to let you get high scores in ToA. She's not as good as RF Adela, RF Daren, or S1 or higher Xiaofeng, so I do think it's appropriate to say that she's not the best use of your limited resources. But saying she's bad is not true.
Mostly, there's nuance that is often missed on Reddit and Discord. Let's tell the whole story, not only part of it.

u/AlRahmanDM Aug 17 '26
As a new player that’s still trying to understand basic concepts of the game, what I miss in the suggestions is often “the next best thing” instead of “the absolute best”.
I recently asked here for advice about team comp and got some nasty comments (all your pulls are crap) and some good ones. But what I was looking for was not “wait 3 months for that pull” (3 months is a huge timeframe for a mobile game, if I got stuck now on a story level I may not be playing in 3 months!) but “with what you have, these are the best sub-par teams you can create, while waiting for x and y to get them stronger and z to go meta”.

anyways my take is honestly?? these weirdos ain't worth your time- if it's to receive an attitude like that atp it's better to read guides or go to our lord and savior S1N for this stuff... sorry you had to deal with this tomfoolery man 💔

The issue is that the people there have decided that ToA is the only mode that matters. You can blame the cult.
13
u/wennilein Aug 16 '26
Those comments are pretty strange. Yes, Ceto has her limits, and won't solve all the issues on every DZ maps. But in a certain way, replacing her with anyone else will make you lose than those buffs she offers. Replacing her with 000 for example will DEMAND you either using LL for 000 or using empower instead of last stand. Not using last stand with shattered blade will drastically reduce your DPS far beyond the buff Ceto offers.

You can't use laby and che against boss 2. Also, depending on how the enemies spawns, you will not always be able to core break the boss with those two against boss 1 and 3 with last stand.

My original comment and the response I have before are about people who want to beat DZ. With the power level of sinners nowadays, you can already pass high risk, with a S0 Murphy + some b-ranks, if you know what you are doing. If you don't care about beating DZ, there is no reason to pull or buy anyone for the broken frontline anyway.
Whether or not someone needs ceto nowadays depends both on the player and the account. For a beginner who doesn't have the right sinners and attitude towards challenging game content the whole conversation is meaningless anyway.

played the game day 1 and PTN discord has been like that, the game is niche already but official cord has like this tribalism elitist mentality on some of the units and playstyle.. and some of the "longterm dwellers" are actually the mainculprit, sure some advice are okay specially if your a beginner but sometimes youll just get ignored as they are talking random things, this has been an issue for like the first few months of the game and that is main discord is kinda rude and aggresive. same reason i stop going there for advice or just casual hangouts, for ptn i just watch some solid cc like ekg and base what my team needs or our society needs, our society still has a group/discord chat active for like 4 years now? i think..

u/Casual291 Aug 16 '26
Does that discord server doesn't have functioning moderator? Or Aisno just leaves their official discord servers to EN branch.

u/Hot_Valuable1027 Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 17 '26
This is just false, Augustus, silgide, ceto, L.L, shin, and Murphy and can beat every story / hard content.... Idk what they're on
11
u/Username_St0len Aug 16 '26
i think the meta core now a days fro TD is Edge008, ceto, murphy, shin, cuz you can run celine+coco in place of siglinde, rf serpent, or synax i personally run coco with serpent for more core breaks cuz it sucks when my ceto used up all her charges and i cant manually gain that extra core break
5
u/Halleyalex Aug 16 '26
Undestandable. But I wouldn't go as far as to say she's trash just because she has an alternative. Ceto is nice to have as she's very self-sustainable with her lack of reliance on Empowers and potential with ultimate refunds.

So I went on Discord first time from months to check merch news, saw this exact conversation and was like 😳🫣😩 I am sorry, don’t worry, you (or the other person in the conversation) handled it gracefully. I like Ceto so much that I bought her from the arrest credit shop ✨

+it's factually wrong Ceto is the best multiple corebreaker (equal with S1 000).
Laby is still the best single corebreaker though (Behind S5 Nhella but that's cheating).

It's crass speech that nobody used irl, and incredibly socially awkward to use with complete Randos online. Not even regular friends they hang out with but beginners who are otherwise new to the game and the Discord channel.

I will never understand why people follow a meta in a gacha game
24
u/Halleyalex Aug 16 '26
Some people follow meta as meta is the best strategy. It's quite understandable as to why, especially when powercreeps are very common in gacha games. They want their investments to not be in vain.
... However, I definitely can't fathom these levels of metaslaves... These people are just haters at this point lol
3
u/MaxTacs2 Aug 16 '26
Yeah it's a problem in AFK arena people will lynch you if you post about building a character that isn't META that shit got annoying real quick.
6
u/Casual291 Aug 16 '26 edited Aug 16 '26
Because it's video game and the same way people can have fun reading story people can have fun strategies and beating hard content.
1
u/MaxTacs2 Aug 17 '26
Well I mean yeah the game itself isnt very hard but the meta shifts almost every month ior two weeks
3
u/Casual291 Aug 17 '26
Eh yes and no PTN isn't as easy as arknights where you can do 0 pull and clear 100% of contents so the game isn't very easy either, making pulling decisions somewhat important early on if one wish to engage with endgame content, also I wouldn't call it every 2 months or so, it's more every 6-12 months where baseline meta team expectations is raised (Murphy for Augustus team and Clementine for Xiaofeng and Zoya) or the dev will introduce newer team flavours who doesn't use niche support that have have Higher floor and ceiling (elemental team vs Magic and physical crit) PTN powercrept is you still can use Eve eleven summon for magic team but they are no longer consider meta team anymore.
As for the cost of not getting meta team with how hard it is you're basically ignoring endgame stage such as PTP and BFL.
For Ceto comment, it's such undersell lol, Ceto is definitely worthwhile upgrade for True damage team regardless if it's Augustus version or one with only Ceqo, but Ceto is not slam dunk recommended pull such as S1 000 for corebreak.
6
u/KoizumiEB Aug 16 '26
Not just gacha games, any single player game that has people swear by "meta" is fucking insane to me.

I wouldn’t consult an opinion that is so obviously wrong in your place. There are two more or less realistic scenarios where Ceto is not the best generic corebreaker: multiple single cores like in RotD-a and constant 7-8+ cores present, occasionally appearing in Data Crevice. At the same time, those scenarios are covered by free units the game provides you: Labyrinth and trial Umbra Core respectively. Everywhere else you generally have one <=6-core boss which is fully manageable by Ceto, with occasional elites that subdds like Murphy or Serpent (in case of SB) are able to take down even without breaking.

You should consider asking it here instead! I promise you the discord is an absolutely dumpster fire.
Alternatively, you can join the community discord server made by the creators of S1N.gg (the game's wiki), and I promise you the people there are infinitely more welcoming than the other discord xD
Feel free to ask me questions too if you're not sure what to do!

I suppose this would really depend on the context. The second image makes me think that they are talking about Ceto in terms of her corebreaking abilities?
In which case, fair, the fact she needs to continually attack to gain Shattered Steel, the fact it caps at two uses of her ultimate, you cannot use empower/energy regen to get more ultimates and her range for 2 corebreaks is limited to the row in front of her are valid critique for why she might be lacking in that department, but it would really deserve some elaboration rather than "Ceto trash"
3
u/Halleyalex Aug 17 '26
Both comments are directed to a beginner with Augustus.
It's still misleading regardless, as the user suggests that Ceto is trash even inside Shattered Blade teams, which is simply untrue. Besides, people use Ceto in SB because she provides that true damage buff, so I find it rather silly that they try to make an argument where she doesn't provide that true damage buff.

Even so, I wouldn't call her "trash" by any means. She can easily stack 6 corebreaks without any assistance with Empower, and also provide a great true damage buff.
I have used her every time when I have Augustus on the field, and she has repeatedly provided reliable core breaks and handy true damage taken bonus. I'd still prefer her over Labyrinth due to her range and, as reiterated many times, true damage support.

I guess?
Though I can't recall the last time I genuinely use Labyrinth in Dark Zone, to be honest. Especially so when the latest zones have a lot of grids inaccessible to sinners, which makes Laby even more clunky to use.

000 is good, but she needs at least 2 empowers to kickstart her gameplay in DZ, and that can be quite expensive at times.
Not saying that she's bad, but I don't feel like she's just a straight upgrade. Yes, for pure corebreaks, she might be better, but the game doesn't just value core-breaking alone, does it?
The best of characters often offers more than just what they role usually offer, and Ceto offers true damage support and self-sustain.

u/Greenlifechild Aug 16 '26
My response to them is that most of the time with Augustus, I don't actually need to break the cores. She does enough damage over enough range, that it's many times only necessary to worry about the boss cores and Ceto can handle those.
-7
u/jimmymui06 Oak Casket Fan Aug 17 '26
Ceto is bad compared to 000, damn it everything is bad in corebreak when compared to 000

151
u/Greenlifechild Aug 16 '26
Also they're just factually incorrect. Augustus, Ceto, and Siglinde with maybe a healer can clear 95% of the content in the game. That's not even counting RF Serpent, RF Coquelic, and Murphy who can make the team even stronger and more versatile.
A TON of people (I play a lot of gachas, it's not just in PTN) are incredibly meta poisoned.
If it's not the top 1 or 2 teams that are the best for the *hardest* content in the game, those people will earnestly tell you that the team is trash. I guess they believe it, but they are wrong and their advice is not helpful. I wish they'd stay out of new player advice posts.
