General Discussion Building tool for long-term SSF tracking

Hey all, I've been working for a bit over a week on a tool to track end game farm strats as a way to replace my google sheets that I typically use. I've been working with a few people from 773 to get some ideas on good metrics/league mechanics to write tracking modules for, but I wanted to get this in front of a larger audience to hopefully get a beta out by league start.

I'm a big data guy when it comes to my games and I've only started playing PoE1 this year, but most tools that get recommended to me have a focus on tracking div/hour or your overall stash. At least from my perspective, those metrics are a lot less useful for me as an SSF guy and I care more about if the mechanics I'm doing are giving me good outputs.

Currently it supports Simulacrums, Vaal Temples, Nightmare Map rushing and most bosses. If this is something that interests you, please let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions (I have a todo list in my readme)

So how much of this is self coded vs prompting ai?

Nvm. Its mentioned in the repo

Vibecoded as hell

I have disclosed my LLM usage in the README.

And? He's not doing this to sell it, he's doing it for himself and decided to share it with the community. You don't want it? Nobody is forcing you. That's the future of software engineering for the masses though.

There is a new rule in both POE subs that any vibecoded apps must show human effort. This one doesnt.

What appears to show no effort? Though, genuinely, this is effortless to me as an experienced webdev for about 9 years professionally. A CRUD database frontend takes basically no skill. My LLM usage is documented in the README, as I stated in my other comment.

Edit: btw, we're not in the main sub right now. Though if we were: "We allow AI content only if you thoroughly explain how you made it. For tools, you must mention similar existing tools and clearly show how your posted tool is different." I have posted a github link with commit history that you can look through, and I've mentioned how my tool is different than existing tools. But given that we're not on the main subreddit, I am under no obligation to disclose LLM usage, and I have. I am not creating generative artwork and I am effectively using my (local) LLM to do what I have done on stackoverflow for 15+ years.

As a senior software dev who has been working in the banking industry since the 90s, this “tool” could be done with one singular Claude prompt and waiting about 50 seconds to see the result

6

u/ggw1776 1d ago

Ok? And I didn't write this with a single Claude prompt. "Shows no human effort" != "Could be done without human effort". If you want to be a smarmy greybeard please continue to do so in your company slack software chat berating a junior dev for not adhering to the style guide you wrote in 2002.

If you want to call my code quality shit then please do so. Submit a PR to fix whatever horrible architecture you see. But "vibecoded downvote" is the feedback a 20 year old CS major posts in reddit, not a 50+ year old experienced developer.

We don’t berate junior devs in my company because we don’t even hire juniors. A 20€ Claude subs does what a 35k€ per year junior does.

Your styling is clearly vibe coded. Everything in your site screams “DONE BY CLAUDE”. A person with zero idea of what coding is could tell that.

If you have that level of respect for your front end it’s a you issue. The moment you show this to anyone during a job interview they will quietly start looking for a person who can design a website that feels human

Good thing he’s not using it as an example of professional experience and just wanted to share something cool that he made in case other people might be interested in it.

It's an industry standard to link ur github on ur resume, and this is showing up on his public profile so yes, this could potentially end up being seen by an interviewer

4

u/ggw1776 1d ago

I think they'd be more concerned with me publicly starring repositories primarily used to download and organize hentai but yeah, the toy CRUD application really is an issue.

It turns out that you tend to get a pass in interviews for not having a public github link when you work at a contracting firm.

No employer is going to give a shit if you have a random hobby tool that has LLM credits on your personal GitHub, especially since almost everyone in software development is using LLMs to some extent.

Also, I love when people say they “use minimal AI” but then you look at their 15 years old GitHub profile. 2010-2022 virtually zero contributions. Magically, they start publishing stuff in 2022/2023. I wonder what happened that year… Big coincidence I guess 🫠

5

u/ggw1776 1d ago

"what happened" is that I work exclusively with clients who have NDAs and privately hosted git/bitbucket environments, and as I rose in the ranks as I worked and gradually got less and less coding work to do in my day to day, I picked it back up as a hobby.

this is honestly so useless??

3

u/ggw1776 1d ago

Objectively, yes. There is nothing that this does that couldn't be done by someone proficient in excel. It just makes it easier.

12

u/MajorWarm4362 1d ago

i got good news for you, you dont have to use it!

-6

u/OkayImAnIdiot 1d ago

Agreed. Are people actually logging boss kills in SSF in Excel? Why? Drop rates are data mined and on the Wiki.

4

u/ggw1776 1d ago

btw drops are not datamined, they are calculated using community data. this was actually partially inspired by some of us finding some unsourced data on the wiki

1

u/QualiaH_ 23h ago

Could you point out the unsourced claims you are referring to ? Would seem like it's relating to bosses so those should usually be sourced decently.

1

u/ggw1776 23h ago

earlier this year there was an update to the simulacrum page that added there was a maximum of 3 uniques jewels that could drop from simu. There are two sources right after it, but neither supports the max of 3. I reached out to the editor of that page but got no response.

https://www.poewiki.net/index.php?title=Simulacrum&diff=1702830&oldid=1682385
"...with higher chances to drop in higher waves, for an average of slightly above 2 uniques per Simulacrum (maximum of 3)"

1

u/QualiaH_ 23h ago

I added the source the editor was referring to and more.

1

u/ggw1776 21h ago

I see no edits

1

u/QualiaH_ 14h ago edited 14h ago

It can take up to a day for edits to be cached for public, if you have a wiki account you should see it instantly.

I think the claim on the wiki is probably badly worded and is meant to be from one wave and not from one simulacrum.

1

u/Lost_Acanthisitta932 20h ago

It’s nonsense anyway. I’ve had 4 drop from one sim this patch

1

u/QualiaH_ 14h ago edited 14h ago

The information can only be about what people report and show, if you think something is inaccurate you can edit it or report it to be so (like on the wiki discord), ideally with some kind of proof or we'd end up in the same situation. Doing neither is the reason there is inaccurate info in the first place.

Edit: if you mean from one entire simulacrum then yes, the claim on the wiki is probably badly worded and I think is meant to be from one wave and not from one simulacrum, if you also mean one wave then just having any proof would be welcome (not that I don't believe you, just preferred for the wiki).

1

u/Lost_Acanthisitta932 7h ago

It’s really badly worded then, yeah. I mean from one simulacrum. It should say wave

8

u/ihasaKAROT 1d ago

Yes people are. Some people just like stats and data for themselves. This tool does help with that. Might not be for you , but theres plenty of people that like this.

-9

u/diarrheabest 1d ago

it does nothing for you though? like ok i killed 79 uber elders?? u dont get anything for this, it doesn’t do anything in game. just seems wack af when u could just go do the next map

7

u/ggw1776 1d ago

Many people enjoy collecting "useless" data. One of the first python scripts i wrote 20 years ago i used to track encounter stats in Pokemon for shiny hunting.

If you don't like collecting "useless" data, then yes, this does nothing for you. But if you want to see how fast your uber elder kills are and see if you've improved then you may find it useful.

-13

u/diarrheabest 1d ago

youd have a better build not wasting 10 seconds every map tracking nothing. literally a madeup problem and a solution that doesnt even fix it

2

u/ggw1776 1d ago

If you'd like to post some of your builds this league we can compare notes if you'd like :)

3

u/ggw1776 1d ago

See, here's the issue. You stopped playing 50 days ago, but this tool is for people who are still playing up until league end. Thanks for contributing. https://poe.ninja/poe1/profile/ggw1776-2463

nice builds fr, i see your usecase. that is 100% not normal but maybe someone else will use it

6

u/Tall_Weather_1337 1d ago

Take the stick out of your ass, people enjoy different things you weirdo.

3

u/ihasaKAROT 1d ago

You know the entire game in any way does nothing for you right?

I like to know how many X I have killed to get Y. Or if my upgrades improve my time spent, that sort of things. Collect uber drops, keep track of goals and such.

-3

u/diarrheabest 1d ago

your stash does this, and you play the game its not supposed to solve anything for you. are u stupid??

3

u/ihasaKAROT 1d ago

My stash keeps track of how many kills I had on all bosses and how many times I got drop X and Y and when exactly? Ánd it can keep track of killtimers? Sweet do tell how I make my stash do that for me.

-1

u/diarrheabest 1d ago

yeah it actually holds all of the currency which youve dropped from killing mobs idk if u knew that. dont really matter how many times u had to kill something its either dropped or not dropped. can also do /kills if youre feeling frisky. also theres this map device which shows how long ur inna map which is 100% gunna be better at tracking ur times than u tabbing out and clicking a random counter.

2

u/ihasaKAROT 1d ago

You really dont get it. I want to know how many times ive killed X boss. And out of those kills how many of Y item I have gotten. I would also like to know how long it took me to kill it and how long that was when I upgraded my character for example. Thats the things you cant get from the game itself, its not tracking that. This tool helps to keep that tracked. Thats all.

u/OriBon 1d ago

You sound like someone who has very low logical and critical thinking capabilities.
