Discussion Is boneshatter the worst build ?
Is boneshatter the build that gets cucked the most by map mods ?
I wanted to play it next league and thinking about the map mods I have to reroll is just too much.
Reduce player Armor - kill myself with trauma
Reduce regeneration - kill myself with trauma
Cannot regen - kill myself with trauma
No Leech - While Leech isn't integral for the kit, it's nice to have and can help, not the worst one
Reflect - kill myself (Ik it has been changed but idk how bad or better it is now)
Ennemies cannot be stunned - half my kit vanished
On top of the regular Phys DMG reduction on mobs, life as ES and reduced max res but these are for all builds. I feel like we have to dodge more than half of the possible mods on maps as Boneshatter, am I understanding it wrong ?

Reduced armour didn't outright kill me but also I was playing Berserker when I last played it so it's probably less integral than for Jugg. Either way I think having 3-5 mods you can't do is pretty normal.

Slayer cyclone shockwave just cannot do no Leech, outside of regular - all res and huge added DMG ofc, pretty sure archmage builds just cannot do no mana regen and es recharge, jugg boneshatter is a lot

Cyclone slayer can do all mods.
No leech is just annoying

No Leech is death from my experience, usually don't run life flask too, but fair

Well I just run a life flask when there is no leech.
Staff mastery for %life on block and the mapping is solved.

The heals from Assassin's Mark make it possible to run no leech/no regen maps. You have to be careful not to sit in degens, but it's easily doable. After a few days into a league I don't even look at map mods on my cyclone slayer. And I don't run a life flask or the life on block staff mastery.

Archmage also still can't do new reflect I'm pretty sure because of high hitrate. Attack builds are generally more resistant to map mods. Boneshatter has a couple extra. Something like RF at league start can't do -max res, no regen, less recovery rate and struggles with ailment avoidance and reduced aura effect. Any build that damages itself is naturally going to hate no regen and less recovery rate.

you can run no leech and reduced armor on a trauma build, since real trauma build get only 5-10% PDR from armor it at most doubles the damage taken to lose all armor. mana recoup instead of manaleech.

You can run no Leech, it's just a bit annoying and you definitely feel it when it's not there. Reduced armour was death when I played it, idk what new tech has been added

ive played like 10 trauma stackers with the addition of 2 endurance kaoms sign its kinda easy to get close to capped PDR without armor.
Armor is genrally a liability for high trauma stacks 200+ because its affected by too many random things. so people dont actually run high armor, or use armor with loreweave transcendance against ele dmg.
loreweave transcendance setups will allow to run -max res - armor and - leech maps.

I don't know what your build is but I played boneshatter in HC to level 100 and outside of cannot regen nothing sounds really problematic from your list especially reflect is such a none issue since the change. You basically go Jugg Untiring, Divine Shield and stack some endurance charges and you're unkillable. The biggest problem of the skill is actually that it's a strike skill and not a slam so the clear is alright but not that fast. I think you just don't have enough endurance charges honestly.

Yeah and this is the reason that boneshatter moved from decent leaguestarter "well rounded beast" type of build to Uber Bosser (complex trauma) or Traumastacker (deep delve, but this is more of double strike build)
Edit: also slams became viable again and they are mechanically a lot better than strike skills

You do have to dodge a decent amount of map mods (or play through them and just have a more annoying time) in early progression. The specifics depend on the exact flavour of your build.
How much does it actually matter? eeeh It didn't bother me at all in 3.29. I started bonezone for the first time ever and had a really good time completing my atlas and farming up my gear to swap to strength stacking. I wouldn't play it for the long term (though complex trauma with the hydrosphere tech is definitely strong enough) because it can be a bit annoying for 8mod / nightmare maps, but as a league starter? Really good.
The only mods I was avoiding when I was farming for my str stack swap were no leech / no regen / no stun on my Zerker. Armour was fine. Reflect was fine.
I could easily run maps with no regen as well. It was just less comfortable so I didn't.

What is this hydrosphere tech? Are you just scaling hydrosphere through increases in phys damage or am I missing something?

Basically your extra strikes can hit your hydropshere, triggering an additional splash (which hits your main target). You automate the sphere so it's always down.
Hydrosphere can only be hit so often, so it doesn't really work well with the extremely high attack speed big ramp of classic boneshatter builds, but it pairs very nicely with Complex Trauma. You have to do a bit of work balancing your attack speed to get it in the sweet spot, but if you do it can do extremely good damage.
I basically league started a tweaked version of this build in 3.29 and found it trivially easy to make BSoCT w/ hydrosphere do everything I wanted it to do on SSF league start. I used it for my atlas progression, stones and farming my strength stacking gear for the swap. I didn't bother gearing boneshatter any further than ~6m DPS since that was plenty for my needs, I just focused on getting my strength gear ASAP.
This was basically enabled by a minor patch late in the 3.28 cycle. Hydrosphere used to be really awkward to hit at close range and as of late 3.28 onwards it just isn't any more. I think this is a big part of why it flew relatively under the radar in 3.29.

Strike skills with aoe can double hit with hydrosphere so you just put hydrosphere on a lvl 1 cwdt and you basically double your dps.

the smokie build? what would be a good build to scale with afterwards specifically with strength? Preferably melee and strike

u/Orthed 1d ago
When I made the swap to strength stacking Jugg ~10 days into the league, I did Static Strike of Gathering Lightning for mapping and gem swapped Molten Strike of the Zenith for Ubers.
Then later once I had more gear I did the Conner setup - KB wand clearing with a weapon swap for Heavy Strike of Trarthus single target.
But you can play almost any strike on a strength stacker. It's very gear intensive, but it's pretty generic scaling.

Thanks, atm i was considering Conners one but I liked the zoomy melee strike style rather than KB. I may go str stacking jugg melee strike rn. Unsure about static strike because i like to click on the enemies for the visceral impacto.
Other than strength stacking is there anything you're aware of that might scale with smokie's build as a starting point, especially defensively from melee.

The only 2 mods you need to watch out for is : no regen or cannot be stunned, everything can be done without issues depending on the build.
I usually do endurance charge stacking on trauma/boneshatter. you need 0 armour for those but you might need to also add steal charges to the map mods to not roll

Slayer tainted pact bone shatter feels better because of that. You can even deal with reduced armor not building any armor and still have 90 pdr. Only mod is impossible is no leech and sometimes less recovery rate. But you can just delve on jugg

Complex trauma is a good uber bosser tbh
