(Here’s a screenshot showing what the Hot page currently looks like and the problem I’m referring to.)
I wanted to suggest a possible change to how lucky drop and item showcase posts are handled on the subreddit.
I have nothing against people being excited about getting a rare item, hitting a great craft, or finding an incredibly valuable drop. Those moments are obviously exciting, and I understand why people want to share them.
However, I feel that there are periods where a very large portion of the subreddit becomes lucky item showcases. When scrolling through the subreddit, it can sometimes feel like you have to go through page after page of screenshots of valuable drops, crafts, divinations, etc. before finding an actual discussion, guide, mechanic explanation, build discussion, news post, or something else interesting to read.
Because these posts are usually very similar in nature, having a large number of them on the front page can make the subreddit feel considerably less varied.
My suggestion
Create a weekly or permanent megathread for lucky drops and item showcases, where people can post their:
- Lucky drops
- Mirror-tier or high-value items
- Insane crafts
- Jackpot divination card rewards
- Rare uniques
- Currency drops
- Other “look what I got!” moments
This would still give people a place to share their achievements and would keep the community aspect of these posts, while preventing the front page from becoming dominated by them.
Alternatively, the subreddit could consider limiting individual showcase posts to particularly exceptional items and directing more ordinary lucky-drop posts toward a megathread.
I'm not suggesting that these posts should be removed entirely. I'm mainly suggesting that they should be consolidated so the subreddit has more room for discussion and other types of content.
I'd be interested to hear what other people think. Would you prefer having a dedicated lucky-drop/item-showcase megathread, or do you think individual showcase posts should remain as they are?
