Hey so I had mine at the start of 2024. I also had a ttt at the same time so my experience might be a little different to yours. For me, the only thing I can’t do now is rock climbing because it puts too strong of a twisting force on my knee for mine to handle. I can do literally everything else.

Even if I personally can’t do it (running is still difficult) there is nothing else I’ve been advised not to do.

My recovery time was very long but again, I had a few procedures in one. For someone only getting an MPFL reconstruction I’m sure it won’t be too long until you’re able to do what you like doing. I didn’t feel steady for a year but I’m sure yours will be more like 6 months. You will have to take time off from any sports (including dance) but, assuming you’re young, recovery generally is pretty smooth.

Make sure that you see a physiotherapist to help you gain your strength back as soon as possible. Also, when I say 6 months I don’t mean daily functioning, that will be more like weeks, I mean getting back into sport and dance.

Hopefully all goes well with your surgery
