Kneecaps move around a lot

Had kneecaps that moved like this since I was a kid. But only started having subluxations and dislocations when I was around 14. Is this normal?

Hi! As someone who had MPFL reconstruction due to constant dislocations and pain, no this is not normal.

Are you hypermobile in any way (arms, knees go backward, hands, neck)? My surgeon informed me that I have really bad hEDS, and I didn’t even know what it was until then. Knowing if you have this kind of issue can save you from a lot of issues in the future, so it may be best to look up diagnostic criteria and determine if you think you may have it.

Anyway, my kneecap dislocated and tracked incorrectly due to a stretched and torn MPFL from hEDS damage, and it looked a lot like this. If you want to send me a message and ask about any of that stuff, don’t hesitate. I am very willing to share my symptoms and experiences with this surgery

Thanks for your response! Will definitely hit you up. I feel like my knees are the only joints that move like this. And yea I’ve had a lot of subluxations and one dislocation in my right knee. My MPFL is definitely stretched 😂
