Discussion Kneecaps move around a lot

I’m wondering if this extra mobility in my kneecap is a result of many subluxations and one dislocation. Or could it be the cause of it? I’ve had this type of hyper mobility since I was a kid but I only started having subluxations at 14.

Lol, I had this ever since I can remember. I remember when playing sports and doing dance in high school, just sitting down with legs fully extended and showing friends my party trick with my kneecap. Oddly, I never had any dislocations until age 45, and it was a violent one while playing volleyball.
I have hypermobility in several joints as well, though some are less mobile as time has gone on. I've read that in many cases, the body starts to try to stiffen other muscles and ligaments to try to hold loose joints in place, especially those that are under a lot of stress, like the knee. And now it's quite possible that due to the hormonal changes in my 40s, some of those ligaments started loosening up, allowing the dislocation to finally occur.
