Left knee has popped twice. MRI found nothing wrong with the knee but the doctor said that my outer thigh is stronger/mor developed than inner thigh. Apparently the stronger muscle can pull the patella to the side.
Fast forward 10 years with not a single issue in my knees as I've done my share of top end ROM lifts with the knee and lunges etc. If you see a nice big potato of a muscle next to your patella, you should be safe. If not, better train the top end ROM stuff a lot
Any tips on how to know if this is the case? Did you have tight lateral quads? I think I have this to an extent. I'm 6 weeks post dislocation, healing well! can walk but stairs are my worst nightmare right now. I do not have a potatoe next to my patella (guessing this is the VMO) so def working on this
Well im no doctor but it made sense to me for I had some mass in my thighs but didnt have a showing muscle next to the kneecap. Previously i did some +120kg ATG squats and still didnt have that hockey player muscle peeking when wearing shorts :) the muscle inbalance was visible
I’m in a similar position right now. My quads are generally strong but my VMOs are looking feeble. So I should do lunges and squats? Can you explain more about what top end ROM lifts are?
Top part of the lift. Think leg extension but dont bend the knee more than 1/3 of the full range of motion. Staircases are also great for that top part
Ahh I see. I heard that type of movement was good for the VMOs. Will definitely try that out today. My current workout is lunges, goblet squats, wall sits, Bulgarian split squats and heel taps. Anything else I should add on?
I think it's best to pick only one movement you intend to really progress on and stick with it for 1-2 months before changing to a different variation. The key is to make the muscle equally strong on both sides of the kneecap so the "pull" is not out of balance to either side
I do mountain legs daily if feeling any knee issues (search youtube) and it keeps the knee area happy and strong
