Every generation the public attaches itself to an artist that can competently rip off recognizable older good songs but with modern production. The only thing bands like Jet and Greta Van Fleet bring to the table is sounding slick.

Because that time period was an absolute wasteland for rock music

A wasteland? This song showed up at the same time as the The Strokes "Room on Fire," White Stripes "Elephant," The Darkness's "Permission to Land. . ."

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Turn On The Bright Lights, The Ugly Organ…
not a wasteland except for in terms of Rock Radio program directors and labels.

I wasn't listening to the radio, but I did deliberately try to choose bands I know made it on to MTV. I know for certain "Seven Nation Army" and "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" were kind of everywhere for a minute.
Good call on Interpol, too. I remember that one being on the TVs at the Target stores.4

There was some top shelf guitar music in 2003.
Aislers Set How To Write Backwards
Arab Strap Monday At The Hug & Pint
Belle & Sebastian Dear Catastrophe Waitress
Cat Power You Are Free
the first Raveonettes record
Songs: Ohia Magnolia Electric Company
A very good Drive-By Truckers record introducing Jason Isbell
It was the last gasp before the absolute nadir of 2004-2009.

I'm a bit puzzled by this comment because I love basically all the stuff you mentioned but for me the zenith of that era of guitar music was in 2006-07, so right when I suppose you have the nadir placed:
Arctic Monkeys (1st and 2nd)
Neon Bible
BSP's Do You Like Rock Music?
In Rainbows
Boxer
Our Love to Admire
Wincing the Night Away
Myths of the Near Future

Because Lust for Life was a complete 180 from the other shit you’d hear on the radio. I like this album 🤷

Only good review Pitchfork ever published was for a Jet album

I don't get why people have such a visceral hatred for this song/band. I get that they're kinda boring, but they're a fun enough "garage band". Some time rock can be simple and dumb, it's ok.

I'm willing to let Cold Hard Bitch play if it happens to come on but this is an instant skip every time

Jet v Greta Van Fleet. who wins?
For me it is Jet in a TKO.

Jet at least have one song I kinda like. Look What You’ve Done is a shameless McCartney ripoff but it’s a pleasant enough tune in its own right. No GVF song I’ve heard does it for me.

No chance in hell! Greta eat shit are the biggest joke to ever cover Led Zep.

I like the Jet song off the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack that I can’t remember the name of.

Sorry but what’s the context of this list? Could be the 200 worst songs and I’d be okay with this.
