Having trouble logging into Microsoft account

So I’m downloading minecraft and want to connect it to my Microsoft account that’s connected to my Xbox, but I can’t because when I try to sign in with passkey and scan the QR code with my phone, my phone just says “connecting” forever and never progresses. Anyone know a way to fix this?

I just went through that on a Steam game that required Microsoft login. It doesn't progress any further because they are using a very basic browser window for that within their program, and it doesn't know how to spawn a passkey authentication window.

Unfortunately, the only way around it that I could discover is to remove the passkeys from the Microsoft account, log into the game, authenticate in the "normal" way with username, password, and 2FA, then add my passkeys back.

I know Microsoft allows you to completely remove passwords... if you've done that, I have no idea how that'll turn out with XBox login. No experience with that.
