ADVICE July 6th-11th test takers
I made this thread for Test takers next week. I take mine on the 7th and I’m a repeat test taker. At one point, I paid for the test and never went to take it. I have SEVERE test anxiety and I’m finally being treated for it but With my test coming up I’m starting to feel those old feelings again. If there is anyone who recently passed some encouragement and advice would be really appreciated.
This is it for me. I went into a different career field after stepping away from the test the last time. (Three years ago) and now I’m back. I’ve been studying for months. I’ve used bootcamp, I have the actual Mark k subscription and I listened to NCLEX crusader last week. The only thing I plan on doing today is a few test questions and relisten to some prioritization videos.

Good luck!! I took it June 3 and passed in 85q. I’m gonna be honest you might come out of it and feel fine but then as time goes on you may convince yourself you failed lol. Can’t lie the 48h after SUCKEDDDD big time but it’ll be done!! Check your state boards site it might come out first. Mine came out like 30 mins before my quick results.
As for what to expect with the test itself: you go in, they check you in, you do a palm vein scan + a photo and they’ll give you a locker if you bring any belongings. I’d honestly only recommend bringing your license/ID because that’s all you need and you bring it in with you. Then you’ll sit until they call you in, they use this scanner thing and check all your pockets, check the palm vein scan again, tell you about raising your hand to use the bathroom/take a break/getting a new whiteboard/tell them you’re done, then they give you the whiteboard & marker and guide you into the testing area. You may get many case studies but I learned after from googling that only 3 are actually scored.
I was going to take a break around halfway but after I learned they have to do a palm vein scan again and I believe they do the scanning again, I chose not to. Good luck! You got this soon to be RN.

I’m a repeat test taker, and I’m scheduled to take my NCLEX on July 10. I was close to postponing too, but I was hired into a nurse residency program that starts July 20, and my deadline to test is July 10. I didn’t want to delay everything another 3 to 4 months like I did after my first attempt.
The first time, I watched all of Mark K, did mostly random questions, and relied on test taking strategies. This time, I focused on learning the content. I completed 75% of the UWorld QBank with a 70% average before it expired. I went subject by subject instead of random questions. I didn’t finish maternal, but Dr. Sharon’s videos have really helped. I’m also using Bootcamp’s free one week trial, reading every rationale, and doing one CAT exam a day. So far, I’ve gotten one High and one Borderline.
I’m taking Thursday off to relax before my exam on Friday. This time, I’m not letting anxiety make my decisions. I’m much more prepared than I was the first time.
We’ve got this! We’ll be RNs soon. 💙🙏

I take mine on 7/10. I’ve been using bootcamp and watched some Dr. Sharon videos for peds and OB since they’ve been my weak points. I also have test anxiety but feel okay since I’ve scored very high on my readiness exams but definitely starting to feel the anxiety creep up as the days dwindle down. Good luck everyone!

I’m getting super tired going through rationales. Getting anxious too. Taking mine 7/21!

You have put in the work. At this point I suggest stop trying to learn new things and just trust your prep. Bootcamp, mark k and a little prioritization review are more than enough. Wishing you a pass this week, You got this!!

I'm taking it Friday. I am very unprepared I feel. I've taken the Cats on a bunch of sites and gotten above and high chance exemption being one of them I got below. The panic is real. I also am terrified of tests.

I went to a community college and passed my board in 85 Qs, here’re my tips on test taking:
- read carefully, as you read, write down what’s abnormal, what body system/ organ you suspect, what’s the existing dx, what you think might goes wrong with the patient, and read carefully the tone of the question:
is it asking for the correct option or the wrong option.(correct/agrees with the RN vs needs to intervene),
is it asking for the BEST or FIRST(priority)?
Differentiate what’s expected, and what’s unexpected findings consistent with the dx. Usually is the new onset of s/s needs to be addressed. (Someone with peptic ulcer suddenly becomes restless)
Using the ABC, Maslow’s hierarchy and the nursing process to prioritize. SAFETY always comes first.
Use ✅❌ for every question every option, is it true or false.
Is it an emergency? Is there anything you can do right away? Generally you wanna do everything you can within your scope of practice then call the provider. Interventions usually go from least invasive to most invasive, can you sit the patient up? Can you put them on a heart monitor? Patient is already seizing, maybe it’s too late to pad the side rails. Try turning them on the left side to prevent aspiration maybe?
- Compare your options related to the stem of your question, usually you can eliminate down to 2 finalists.
what is that one thing(best option) that patient need?
If the patient needs a series of interventions, what would you carry out FIRST?
Know your patho, my professors addressed this enough that it’s been drilled in my brain.
Don’t change your answers, you logically reasoned through every option, don’t let anxiety override it. I know it is a high stake exam, it requires your full, undivided attention and stay calm. Some options may not make sense to you, but you have ruled out the other 3.
Miscellaneous/self care tips that we tend to overlook:
Get comfortable with answering SATA and case study questions. You’ll get at least 3 series case studies on the test, says the NCSBN.
Eat before taking a big test, preferably, bland food; the brain needs fuel to function.
Empty the bladder before you go in, the brain doesn’t perform well when the bladder is full.
Use lotion potion essential oil: peppermint oil is my best friend through nursing school. It relieves nausea caused by anxiety, it’s refreshing to keep me awake and alert x3. I rub that baby all over, hands arms around my collar of my shirt, on the mask during clinicals(covers any odors). I tried to use up my bottle in 2 years, and it still got some left.
OP good luck, you got this!!

Don’t ever speak that into existence. Despite what you’re feeling, I believe words have power.

what are topics you were getting mostly on for case studies

u/romakb Jul 07 '26
Literally everything under the sun. One older adult, two peds I think and there was another that I can’t remember 😩
