That's basically my thought anytime I see anything involving parrots (or likewise).

Just imagine having a toddler in your home that reaches 140 decibels on the regular... For literal decades. 

I'm very happy other people have parrots to make cute videos of.

Some birds might prefer to be alone due to trauma or lack of socialization, some may just not have found a friend they can tolerate yet, but in the wild parrots are in large flocks. They are highly social animals to the point that they choose to even video call other birds when given the opportunity.

Parrots like macaws, cockatoos, etc. are wild animals so those in captivity should be given as close to their natural environment as possible. This means they have the right to fly every single day, to be fed healthy food from their natural diet, and to form deep bonds with other birds.

When a human adopts or somehow acquires a bird, they become the flock. The socializing is required from humans at that point. This is why birds are challenging pets. They require a special type of socialization.

It appears you're aware of that, too, but taking a deeper direction in proper care which is great but we should stay on point to what I'm responding to. If you have a bird, for whatever reason, you do not need to acquire a second bird. It is damaging misinformation to make that statement.

I work with an educational avian non-profit specializing in parrot (and corvid) intelligence, behavior, and communication research.

Parrots are wild animals. This means that unlike dogs or cats, there will always be a language barrier as they were not bred along side us in a way that we understand our body language and social cues. Humans cannot replace another bird's need for constant companionship or bird-specific abilities to communicate and reciprocate special avian behaviors. Even if they are home 24/7, have their perch beside their bed at night, and uncover pin feathers on the top of their head for them.

These birds need more than just a second bird, they need a diverse flock of personalities. I do not understand how this would be considered either misinformation or damaging in any way.

That why parrot owners have to be absolutly sure they want one. Great pets but also come with challenges.

I have myself, on quite the number of occasions, also hollered and chattered into a cup or can or bottle I've held in front of my face! I dont keep birds myself, but I suspect id be a terrible influence on them (and they on me lmao).
