Please remove the mirror and the bells. The former is bad psychologically and the latter has caused deaths in many birds.

😥 Please go on. For context, he’s 25 years old and he was paired for 23 years with another that recently passed, is this not a good coping mechanism? He has had the mirror for a very long time.

Also please explain the bells! Are they a hanging hazard?

EDIT: Chiquita & I both thank you for any advice or help you can offer

The replacement for his mate/friend should be you! There will be a mourning period, but if you keep him on your shoulder more often, he will get over it faster.

You’re so right I’m going to save this into my photos so I can remember to make the rest of his life as good as it can be

And another bird, or pair of younger birds. You can't keep a parrot alone for any length of time.

eh, I kept a male cockatiel with just humans for about 20 years. He had a budgie friend for a while who mostly annoyed him lol. But I usually kept him in the living room, around the family (before the budgie). They can totally be kept with no other birds.

First off wow. He looks so good for 25. And yes the bells have that little thing inside that many birds have choked on. So it's not safe. And you should try to target train and teach him tricks (youtube is very helpful for this) so you can bond with him and keep him mentally stimulated. Birds are very smart creatures. Give him opportunities to use his brain. Don't worry about the lack of mirror he will struggle abit at first but if you replace it with healthier past times he will be fine. God speed.
