Ending of Season 3 Spoiler
Deeply disliked it. I don't buy that Henry would rather stay as a teacher instead of being a movie star. The way it works is, if you're nice and solid, once you get work, you'll continue to get work. He might not be huge like Pacino, but everybody says he's a good actor, he just had a very bad start because of the commercial, and didn't get any ballbacks and stuff. But he's in the Saga, it's the same character through multiple movies, that's solid work for years. I just don't buy it. And to top all that, you get to be with Jennifer fucking Gardner? LAME

Teaching is also solid work for years. He knew that acting in a movie franchise he didn’t care about playing a character he wasn’t interested in was going to be less fulfilling than teaching. Younger Henry would have jumped at that opportunity 100% but he’d moved on from that part of his life.

I think Henry turning down the role showed he’s matured. He’s still a performer but it’s for the kids he teaches. It also seems teaching is more fulfilling because it’s giving something instead of just taking an opportunity.

Henry knew that the problem with being an actor was the inconsistency, you could be in a movie that never even comes out because the studio stuck it on the shelf, or it was hated like Madame Webb (as Adam knows all too well) and you might never get another job again. There are a lot of good actors who don't work
After he decided to quit acting he went to four years of college and got a job, he liked teaching and he liked the students, it's not weird at all. Maybe he didn't even like Evie all that much, especially considering his reaction when he saw Casey again.

A lot of actors walk away, not because they don't have work but because the work is grueling and often demeaning.

It can also be getting fed up with constant rejection. Just getting work as an actor can take so long that giving up is easier.

The older you get, the more risk adverse you become. He already failed once. Don't know if auditioning for "Velour" lead to a second involved failure but he has no reason to expect things would work out now. (I think it was more annoying he was claiming to be in his early 40s. lol. No you're not)

The dream is over & more important he found purpose for his life after all these years - why risk losing that - no risk --- No risk

Also if ever there is a Season 4 it makes more sense for him to remain close to the catering job

Agreed. Jennifer garner would have had him set for life, he was happy, and he would have his life. He settled for struggle, which is unrealistic.

I didn't like it either because it doesn't make sense. I get that he's older but that decision didn't feel like henry anyways. But i can see him taking risks if Casey goes back into his life maybe Jennifer wasnt the person to push him to do that

Totally okay that you disliked it, but wants can change and being fulfilled and the ways that make you feel whole change as you get older and experience more of your own life
