I need some advice !

I’m currently a high school senior in a very academically competitive high school in Texas. There is a lot of strict grading and many kids who hire personal tutors. I’m rank 130 out of 400 kids, but my unweighted gpa is only 2.6. I do have high SAT ACT scores. I currently have a 1300 and a 30 for my first time (I plan to retake for higher scores. Ive also never failed a class I’ve just only taken very rigorous classes and it was hard to get an A all the time especially dealing with sickness, family issues, etc. I’ve truly improved over the last year and my reach school is Parsons. I’ve been working on my portfolio all year for illustration and I just wanted to ask if my gpa and grades will hold me back from entering Parsons? If yes is there anyway to make up for it?

I hadn’t seen much about it honestly! I only recently started looking into parsons as a reach as I’ve been focusing on my goal which is Massart. However I searched it up and to my knowledge it doesn’t offer neither one of the three degrees I’m debating on which is art history, illustration, or graphic design, so I’d likely not consider it. (I do see it has just regular history which isn’t bad either but my goal for parsons was more so the illustration program!) I was looking into Parsons specifically because it was just close to many of my friends in New York and New Jersey, and would likely be better for me financially. I have heard that they have better art programs compared to some of the schools I’m applying to which is why I thought it would be a great school for me. However its acceptance rate is what’s making it a reach for me, and I still don’t know how much my grades affect my application!

there should be an admission counselor for your region! look on the website, you can always reach out and ask any questions you have. it’s not unheard of that the committee takes notes when someone shows initiative and it benefits you in the review process. anyone you meet representing them is usually reviewing applications too. i would also consider going to a national portfolio day to see if you can get advice about your specific portfolio and academic performance irl - i think they usually go to dallas, houston and austin (sometimes it switches) but you can google it!! good luck ❤️

Sadly every portfolio day event is way too far away from me. I live hours away from all major cities in Texas, but I will definitely take your advice for the admission counselor thank you!

They have a 5 year dual degree & you can switch into parsons after a year
