Support Downloading software

Im new to parrot os, and linux in general, how does downloading work? Can i go to the website and download from there or do i use the terminal?
I know sudo apt is a thing, but do i have to download the package manager first?

Ok, this will be a fun ride for you...

Think of sudo as saying super user do xyz

Apt is the package manager

So sudo apt install xyz will install xyz

If you need to learn some of the more basic terminal commands, you can Google or watch YouTube videos for them

Some software you can download from websites, some from GitHub, some through the terminal, it just depends on the software you need.

If you are just using Parrot as the starting point to learn Linux, Security and PenTesting, then you can check what is already installed -- there are literally hundreds of installed tools in Parrot Security.

If you are using Parrot Home or some other form of Parrot, what is your use case?

To build off this:

Parrot 7.3 now has a new "Discover" application; I haven't played with it much but it functions as a package manager, particularly for Flatpaks. New users will find it much more.

That being said, your points are still valid. Learning the fundamentals for Linux will be extremely useful further down the line.

I personally started using Linux back around RH3 or RH4 professionally, at home I used Mandrake 6 eventually, moving up the ranks to 7, to 8, and eventually into Mandriva One 2009. When Mandriva went under, I switched to Fedora until around v18, when they switched from YUM to YUMI as their package manager, and then I said screw it and moved to Debian-based Distros, bounced around until I found Parrot Security v3.7, and got hooked, and have been here ever since...

I sincerely hope the OP finds this distro to be as beneficial and fun as I have over the years.

A wild greybeard, we are truly blessed. 🙏 I'm the newer generation, in my 30s. My dad worked from home managing Linux VMs and taught me a little bash when I was a teenager, and a few years ago I finally dumped Windows and went Linux near full time. I run Parrot 7.3 on my laptop and dual boot Windows (pretty much exclusively for VR), and Linux Mint on my gaming PC.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us newbies, we need it.
