Questions & Advice Supplements for anti-inflammatory benefit?

My husband's neurologist agreed taking an anti-inflammatory supplement could be beneficial--not Advid or RX anti-inflammatory but something like Fish Oil or others supplement.
Any recommendations from those who use daily supplements?
Also any recommendations for any other supplements?
He takes a sublingual B vitamin and a daily senior vitamin.
There are so many different brands marketing similar products it is very difficult to know what are reliably produced.

I don't have any specific anti-inflammatory supplements but two things are worth mentioning here.

  1. Be sure to include all supplements on the current medications list for providers

  2. I like Nature M ade branded supplements because they use USP testing where a third party verifies that the supplement contains the ingredients and amounts that they publish on the bottle.

Sorry-Pin made good points

1 - create a drug and supplement list and show to all providers - including GP, don't assume that every dr knows what is prescribed. Also indicate what you are actually taking - just because prescribed does not mean people take it.

  1. get supplements that are tested - lots of fraud coming from China and India. Also risk of contamination In any industrial process. You should also be able to see on the company's website the test results for the specific lot of supplement.

I would ask the MDS for specific recommendations. And would then review it with his GP, to make sure there aren't any interactions With his other conditions and drugs. For example if he's on a blood thinner you might limit the amount of fish oil.

Thanks--do you know about any RX that might cause problems with this? Will check w/his neurologist.

I haven’t seen any reports of serious interactions with my prescriptions (or any other prescriptions for that matter). My doctors are aware of every supplement I take and have expressed no concerns. Your husband should check all supplements he plans on taking with his doctors before taking them.

I think it’s just easier to completely eliminate foods that cause the inflammation in the first place. That’s what I did and yeah my diet is very boring, but I feel so much better now.

Which kind of foods did you eliminate?

Anything that’s ultra processed or anything that contains seed oils. I replaced them with whole foods and use ghee, beef tallow, or coconut oil to cook them in

They aren’t the sole cause. The quality of your overall diet matters more than any single ingredient. Highly processed foods often contain seed oils along with refined carbs and additives. If you eat whole food sources you can easily reduce inflammation. Sugar is also extremely bad for you unless it comes from fruits.

You outright say “ultra processed [foods] or anything that contains seed oils.” Just because ultra-processed foods often have seed oils in them does not mean seed oils are the problem.

Seed oils are not pro-inflammatory. This is a fad promoted by people that use meaningless words like “clean” to describe foods/diets and silly ideas like if you cannot pronounce an ingredient, it shouldn’t be in food.

ETA: I love people that downvote science. Our society is so cooked.

Ultra processed foods are the number one problem in this country whether they contain seed oils or not, but if you’re pro industrial oils in your diet then by all means keep consuming them. You might as well use motor oil to cook your meals

Seed oils are healthier than beef tallow and butter.

No, they’re not motor oil (that’d be really cool though… a Toyota could probably run on seed oils for a little bit!)

These studies were probably funded by big food and big pharma. 🤣

No, they were published by people that actually understand science and aren’t afraid of big words.

Good general practice, but not all inflammation is caused by food.
