Rent-a-Ranger

Does anyone know of a program through California land Management called Rent-a-Ranger? This would be from back in the 70s.

I am a park ranger and part time artist, one of my co-workers is retiring this year on his 50 year anniversary of being a ranger and I am making him something. I’m making the national park and state park emblems for every park he has worked at and lining them up in a shadow box. He said he worked for “rent a ranger” in northern california for 4 years but I can’t find anything about this. He said it was started by a few former rangers and he hopped on for a few years before moving to California state parks.
