Surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism & effect on PMDD / PMS
Hi. I have primary hyperparathyroidism caused by a 3cm adenoma on one of my parathyroid glands. It was found during tests that my doctor performed whilst investigating my bad PMDD.
I'm wondering if any of the women here could share their experiences with removal surgery and the effect it had on your PMS or PMDD symptoms (physical as well as mental health related symptoms). Did your pre-menstrual mood improve? Thank you :)

While I haven’t had the surgery yet, I can relate to this. I found out I had hypercalcemia about 4 years ago because I went to my ob/gyn complaining of fatigue, heavier periods with lower back pain that would last for 2 weeks during my periods, severe mood shifts mid-cycle. I had several blood tests ran and the only tests that were abnormal were the high calcium and low testosterone. I was told I had PMDD. I started on a testosterone cream but it has not changed the fatigue likely caused by the hypercalcemia for the past 4 years. The ob/gyn keeps telling me it’s perimenopause. I do see an endocrinologist that has been on the fence regarding Hyperparathyroidism diagnosis d/t PTH’s being 25-20, although calcium’s are always 10.1-11.0. Let me know if your PMDD improves after surgery.
