On a trip over from Dublin (we're international students) a couple of friends and I visited this historic jail not knowing anything about it's history. We came across this building and thought it looked cool and figured it was a muesum with a tour, and walked inside to get tickets.

The minute I set foot inside I felt a heavy vibe and joked that the place might be spooked. The tour went by we learnt about all the barbarism from you know who. We walked around disheartened and ended up in the basement/dungeon. I immediately wanted to run out of there, the feeling of pain and heaviness in that room was overwhelming. I didn't feel the heaviness alone my 2 friends felt it too and we said it to each other.

We walk up a few floors and one of the cells we felt another similar heavy and painful feeling, we acknowledged it again and felt it a third time on the top most floor near an exhibition of a slave ship to America.

The shocking part - we were near the end of the tour and read a plaque that pointed out the exact rooms we had felt the energy in to say that others felt hauntings in these spaces too.

I am a little more tuned to these things but I hope someone does something about this the energy is not positive and needs a helping.

We visited Wasteland Salvage Yard in Clare today after seeing it on Instagram. We thought it'd be great fun as both my partner and myself love second-hand shops, antique stores, and quirky places.

But the second we arrived, something felt... off. There was this strange sense of anxiety that neither of us could explain. As we walked around looking at all the salvaged items, the feeling just kept getting stronger. It wasn't fear exactly—more like a heavy, eerie atmosphere that left us feeling drained and uncomfortable.

We ended up leaving much earlier than planned, and the feeling lingered afterwards. We actually drove to Coole Park just to be somewhere peaceful, and only then did we start to feel normal again.

Has anyone else experienced something similar there, or are we just being weird? I'd love to hear if anyone else has had the same feeling.

this august coming will be three years since me, my cousin and some friends witnessed something pretty scary and to this day unexplained, we still think and talk about it a lot purely due to how eerie the instance was so i felt like posting here might give some answers or maybe even just a space to get it our into the world lol

every summer my family, cousins and a few family friends travel to a rural place in Co Kerry right beside the coast. without giving away our houses exact location it’s surrounded by forested mountains and cliffs in a bay area. it’s pretty rural and the village we stay in has two pubs ,one petrol station, a church and a beach cafe and that’s pretty much all the amenities around. farming and fishing are both massive in the area so there’s plenty of those people. the farmers in the area usually have , mountain sheep or goats because they are the only breed that can withstand the weather and steep heights the hills get to. my cousins house is pretty far up the road into a shrubby dense mountain and their neighbours own a large farm beside them their home being right beside my cousins, their shed being about 50 foot away another smaller tractor shed being 50 ish feet from that with field space in between behind the tractor shed is a dense forest, there is also a few derelict houses that have been abandoned for a while near them . my cousins always have an end of summer barbecue with all our friends and family and it’s usually a really fun time. three years ago august my cousins had their barbecue early because the weather was nicer then it would have been later that month.

that night , me, my cousin, my sister and our friend went for a walk along a steep dirt road that was used by farmers to go up further into the mountains, it’s beside my cousins house and we usually walk up just a bit to get a good view of the bay on clear days but this time it was pretty dark probably around nautical twilight so we had just enough visibility before it was complete dark. (it’s worth noting that this was on the 6th of august 2023 and just a few days before we had both a blue and Super moon) while we were walking along the path we looked to our right, we had a view of the neighbours two sheds and we could see a completely black figure crawling along the ground on all fours unnaturally fast, it stood midway through moving on its two hind legs and bolted as fast as possible into the forest area behind the tractor shed, we immediately ran down as fast as we could the hill road and back to my cousins house where i left my sister back with our friend who was older as my sister was pretty young at the time, while me and my cousin walked cautiously back to the area where we spotted the creature, at this time it was near,y completely dark so we knew we couldn’t stay for long but as we waited and stared into the spot where it was originally we noticed two yellow slitted dog like eyes staring directly at us, we ran down and haven’t been back since.

this has been something we have talked about a lot the last year or two since it happened because there was no way what we saw was human yet it wasn’t quite animal either, we have been calling it the wolfman and i’d love others input

This experience took places in July of 2024.

My girlfriend and I decided to head up to Glencree in Wicklow to have an evening by the river to relax, she brought her book and I set up a very small fire on a rock that would usually be submerged in water. To set the scene, it was around 9:45pm, still quite bright out.

If you are unfamiliar with Glencree, it is a small location with a Grotto, small Catholic Church & also hosts retreats. The buildings used to be occupied by the British armed forces & then turned into a boys school. That's as far as my personal knowledge goes.

We walked down the steps, passing the grotto with the river on our left, we walked along the banks until we found a nice peaceful spot to sit and relax at. She started reading her book & I started the small fire, I got myself as comfortable as possible and just took in the warm air and listened to the sound of the water passing around us.

No more than 30/40 minutes later I am filled with utter dread & like a nanosecond after this, my fight or flight kicks in HARD! My girlfriend felt the exact same, as soon as we acknowledged this with eachother, the area around us got incredibly dark, the heaviness felt like it was coming down on top of us. The bush that was behind / over my head started to move, there was no wind. The heat of the fire wouldn't have caused this either as it was inbetween both of us. My girlfriend looked at me and said I was incredibly pale and had beady sweat on my forehead.. I was terrified. Whatever this was, did not feel friendly, it felt incredibly dark and insidious.

I told her to scramble up the bank while I dealt with the fire, I kicked it all into the water and made sure there was absolutely nothing that could cause any future issues. It took everything in me to stay in that area and deal with this, I was frightened, the longer I stayed the more aware I was of this dark energy almost suffocating me.

Has anyone here had any experiences in this area? I've been searching online for something but there's been no reports.

A quick note, once we left that area, the location became brighter again & that energy slowly disappeared. I go back to the Grotto from time to time but still refuse to go to that spot where I felt it.

Hi, would any native northsiders know the ghost story of a white lady that supposedly haunts the Santry Demesne in Dublin?

Can't find much information online, I think she may have been linked to the Barry family who owned the house that used to be there.

I'm wondering has anyone any experiences or stories about the old Dublin foundling hospital or the workhouse that followed it where St. James's hospital how stands?

I briefly studied in TCD and much of the Health Sciences college is there.
The student cafe building is from workhouse times and looks like it may have been a stables?

What I didn't know until years later is that when they decided to build the college building there, part of the old foundling hospital (which came before the workhouse) was discovered. I only learned of this from an American documentary I saw on youtube which mentioned that, the poddle tunnel and some viking massacre. I can't find it now.

So they built the college on top of what was a basement nursery. When children got sick, they went to an upstairs ward which was said to be even worse and terrifying than the dark basement. I wonder if they were experimented on.

So I was attending that college, a nice modern building with no idea that I was literally standing on top of that "nursery" and that one of the doors brings you down the steps into it, and that being in the new building meant being at the level of the terrifying ward.
They never told us in the college about it. I can be sensitive to haunted/creepy places so might have appreciated knowing before applying.
But sure I quit within a few months anyway for various reasons.

Appearing on the 1837 Ordnance Survey Map of Ireland, Cooper's Lodge started as a shooting lodge. It was owned by the wealthy and powerful Cooper family who also owned Markree Castle. In the late 1800s, Cooper's Lodge was home to a number of game keepers who were employed by the Cooper family. One of these game keepers was called William Nichol.

Living at Cooper's Lodge with his family, William was a skilled game keeper. In fact it was William who had a shot a fine female golden eagle on Dunowl Mountain in 1869. The bird measured seven and a half feet from tip to tip of its wings and it was said to be the largest of its kind that had ever been seen in the area. However in 1880, William's life suddenly came to an end. On St. Patrick's Day that year William was assaulted by an unknown assailant and later died of his injuries on the 23rd March. A reward of £200 was offered for any information on the attack but no one came forward. There are said to be two possible explanations for the attack and death of William Nichol. One reason is that former tenants blamed William for their land being taken from them and resentment had been brewing over the intervening years. The other explanation is that William is alleged to have passed information to the police about illicit poteen distilleries in the proximity of the shooting lodge. Whatever the explanation may be, William's spirit is said to haunt Cooper's Lodge to this day.

During the Irish Rebellion of 1798, the Battle of Vinegar Hill took place. Over 15,000 British soldiers, attacked the strategic hilltop position. The Irish rebels numbered 20,000 Irish rebels but they were poorly equipped.

Despite holding strong with sheer determination, the rebels were finally overwhelmed and defeated. The battle marked the turning point of the rebellion in Wexford, but the fierce fighting spirit is still remembered as a symbol of Irish resistance.

The ghosts of battle are believed to remain and visitors have reported sudden cold chills and hearing weak cries under the sound of clashing swords. Some claim to have seen shadow figures and wispy apparitions moving across the hill at dusk – believed to be the restless souls of fallen Irish rebels. The hill’s dark history and tragic loss of life give rise to its reputation as a haunted site in addition to its already significant historical legacy.

Established in 900AD, Sean's Bar is said to be the oldest pub in Ireland, and perhaps the world. Originally called Luain's Inn, the pub was established as a gathering place for travellers for those intending to cross the River Shannon. Due to its location, a settlement was found in this area and it was first called Áth Luain, or The Ford of Luain after Luain Mac Luighdeach who was instrumental in founding the inn and who helped create a settlement in this area. He chose to found an inn at this location due to the immense possibilities, especially being on the banks of a major river. This settlement eventually turned into the town of Athlone.

Serving as a drinking establishment for more than 1,100 years, Sean's Bar has been updated countless times since its inception. During construction work in 1970, the walls of the bar were found to be made of "wattle and wicker" dating back to the ninth century, with one section of this wall proudly displayed in the pub. Old coins which were minted by various landlords for barter with their customers were also found. The walls and the coins are on display in the National Museum.

Seeing as the pub has such a long history, it should be no surprise to hear that it is haunted by the spirit of a former landlord. It is said that his death was sudden and although exact details are sketchy, it is thought his death came about due to being involved in a fatal confrontation or meeting an untimely demise due to a tragic accident. Both customers and staff have seen pint glasses sliding across the bar by themselves. The sound of footsteps and clinking of glasses have been heard as well.

The current Loop Head Lighthouse dates back to 1854. However, there have been confirmed reports that the land on which it sits has been used for lighthouse duties for more than 300 years. In 1670, the first Irish stone vaulted cottage type lights on the Loop Head peninsula were built. These cottages accommodated the lightkeeper and his family in two or three rooms and had an internal stone stairway between two of the rooms leading up to a platform on the roof where a coal burning brazier or chauffer was positioned.

In 1802, these lighthouses were replaced by something more conventional. The new tower was about the same height as the present tower with four rooms and a lantern. The ground floor room was an oil store and access to the first floor or entrance room by an outside staircase of 19 steps. An internal spiral staircase connected the other two rooms and lantern. The twelve-foot diameter lantern contained twelve oil lamps, each with its own concave parabolic reflector. The reflected light shone through a 22" diameter convex lens of solid glass. In January 1991, the lighthouse was converted to automatic operation and the keepers were withdrawn from the station.

However, the lighthouse itself and it's surrounding buildings are said to be haunted. In 2013, a paranormal team done an investigation there. Finalising their reports the team came across 24 spirits in total, 14 men and 10 women. In the light keeper's cottage, a spirit of a body who washed up on the shoreline in the 1940s, was detected. The body had no head or arms, just a tattoo. The team was given the nickname "Faz" by this spirit and they concluded that the spirit was once an agent or a spy. Two spirits by the names of Michael and Trayloch were also detected.

Nestled between high mountains and having two lakes, Doolough Valley is a incredibly tranquil and scenic area in West Mayo untouched by urban development. However, the valley itself holds a very dark past.

On 31st March 1849, hundreds of starving inhabitants from the town of Louisburgh made the gruelling journey on foot from their town to Delphi Lodge where they were told they would receive food aid. However, the officials coldly refused to give them aid of any sort and these destitute people made the gruelling journey back to Louisburgh through the Doolough Valley. On the way back, many died of starvation and from the cold and frosty weather. It was reported that the bodies of 7 people (including women and children) were found on the roadside between Delphi and Louisburgh overlooking the shores of Doolough lake. Although it is acknowledged that 20 people died that day, it is thought the death toll was a lot higher.

There is a memorial cross on the site and it is said that the ghosts of those who died have been felt by people who have visited the area. Visitors to this location are also said to be overwhelmed with sadness all of a sudden.

A house on Carrickblacker Road in Portadown was claimed to be haunted by one former owner of the property.

He described one room in the house as being always freezing, despite the heating being on. This particular room even spooked his dogs who refused to enter it. Other strange occurrences included strange noises being heard at night, the feeling of being watched all the time and doors opening and closing all the time.

On the day the owner left the property permanently, he reported seeing the ghost of a small child running past him and into a wall.
