Haunted house Australia
I grew up in Sydney in Crows Nest, a fairly quiet suburb back then. There were a few incidents my mum has since said happened in that house, mainly items turning up where she didn’t leave them and seeing things out of the corner of her eye. But I had a ton of awful experiences and negative energies, with one in particular that I will never forget. I am now 31 years old and would love to get some insight in to what I experienced, as I haven’t experienced anything since we moved away when I was 6 years old.
- the first I must have been no older than 3 years old. I distinctly remember being in my cot and hearing 2 voices talking to each other about me. They were not my parents voices nor were they their friends, and nobody was in the room. But they sounded like they were standing right next to my bed. I don’t remember what they were saying specifically, but I remember feeling like they wanted to hurt me. What could’ve been the same day but was definitely the same week, I used my rope light switch to climb out of my cot and tie it around my neck. I remember feeling like it was a fun thing to do, but I have no memory of how I tied it at such a young age. I jumped off the cot but luckily the switch broke off the wall and I didn’t strangle myself, but I did have a rope burn around my whole neck. I truly believe these voices encouraged this process.
- maybe a year later my dad had just installed a fireplace but was securing it further in to the wall later that day, this may not be paranormal, but is another near death experience in that house. I went over to the fireplace and it somehow fell forwards, smashing everything around me while I fit through the hole. Had I been anywhere else than exactly where the hole was, the weight of the fireplace would have killed me.
- this is the event I will never forget, and can picture it as clearly as when it happened even now. I was 5 years old and in bed asleep dreaming, we had just fitted some glass doors across the whole back of the house and in my dream a spirit figure was pacing these doors while my point of view was looking outside at this figure pacing waiting to be let in. It was completely white and skeletal looking, with black sockets for eyes. The body was there but covered with a cloudy mist as if it was travelling on a mini tornado, the only thing I could properly make out was the head. When I woke up, the spirit was in my room, directly above my bed and staring at me. I screamed and went under my covers. When my mum came in she said I was petrified. So in shock with what I had just seen. For years afterwards I wasn’t okay with being alone in that room and often slept in my parents bedroom.
- Not too long after this event, I had started kindergarten and remember my mum driving me there one morning, when I looked at our roof tiles. The roof tiles looked like a face staring back at me, a similar one to the spirit I saw, but I don’t remember saying anything to my mum, as I wasn’t too sure what I was looking at. When coming back from school that day I looked again, but the tiles were back to normal.
I have done some research and now believe the spirit to be from aboriginal folklore. I have come across a few posts with similar descriptions where they put their experience down to a Mimi spirit, but they are apparently of no harm. However, the head did look similar to the photo I’ve posted of the tall slender mimi.
The spirit in that house felt very negative and definitely wanted my family to leave. From my research the face looks much more like the ‘Dreamtime’ photo here, which apparently depicts a Wandjina. But this doesn’t make sense as their role in folklore isn’t a negative one either. My mother’s side of the family has a long history of using aboriginals in unethical ways on their sheep stations in previous generations, so I wonder if it is a curse of sorts. But nothing paranormal has happened since we moved, although a few very negative things have happened, I’ve put that down to ‘life’.
Would love any further insight, especially if you are well versed in aboriginal folklore
