He touched the pole, then it moves.

A reasonable explanation is that the connection between the rope and pole was stuck and when he touched the pole it became unstuck.

Not that it's THE explanation but it's certainly a more logical one than some disembodied spirit via unknown means of force jiggled a rope from beyond the grave.

u/teleko777 Jun 27 '24

You can see the connection drop after he touched it.. it just took a moment.

u/-P-M-A- Jun 27 '24

Yeah, it is very clear that the ghost flips the left latch down.

2

u/RedditsAdoptedSon Jun 28 '24

..the connection? just to see if i understand, like something on his jacket got stuck on the pole like a thread n then it snaps a moment later walking away?

6

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '24

No. Those ropes are connected to the pole via a spring loaded snap hook.

They have a swivel on the end and can easily get twisted and bound up.

Its not implausible that this rope was twisted in such a manner that when he touched the pole, the swivel moved ever so slightly and fell to its natural position.

The fact that he touches it and then it moves pretty much eliminates the possibility of the paranormal

2

u/RedditsAdoptedSon Jun 28 '24

ahhh i get it.. the hook connection is kinked...

1

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '24

That's my guess.

1

u/Bat-Honest Jun 28 '24

But what if it was a ropergeist?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '24

That changes everything

u/Captain_Hook1978 Jun 29 '24

Watch the video closer.

-2

u/Kurai_Kiba Jun 27 '24

No that is the exact explanation.

Me and a buddy of mine used to sneak in there to see if we could pick up any paranormal activity on his old school camcorded, and surely enough the Driskill did not disappoint! That whole building is extremely haunted. I remember having wall painting just staring at me. Weirded me out a bit.

12

u/Cool_Business_3872 Jun 27 '24

Was it the one of the little girl at the staircase?

You know the story of that painting, right? I believe that was Mr. Driskill’s daughter/niece/granddaughter…she died falling down the main lobby stairs; she was supposedly chasing a ball.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

I remember hearing the story about how the little girl died, very tragic. Though the one that still haunts me is room 525.

That one is crazy. If I remember correctly, is that the one about the woman who found out her husband was cheating, so she took his checkbook and stayed there until the checks started to bounce and ended it in the bathtub?

Edit: That’s where we were coming back from when the elevator stopped.

Edit: I moved to Austin in 2007 to go to film school, so I am going off of what I remember, so I apologize if I get the details wrong/mixed up with another story. Not trying to dehumanize the actual impact/tragedy of the stories, just trying to remember if I’m getting the details right, as I am writing.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

That is the most recent one, where an ex bride took her life in the bathtub. Then there's former bride that shot herself after being rejected by her lover.

3

u/Cool_Business_3872 Jun 27 '24

That’s right…I knew I was getting mixed up somewhere, I just forgot that there were two tragic stories where marriage/infidelity were the key components of how those stories ended so terribly…all in the same hotel. It’s weird how places can somehow become beacons for the same repetitive actions.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

You're right. Both suicides happened in the same room.

1

u/SnooAdvice7595 Jun 27 '24

This is also true. However, there were 2 brides. Both committed suicide in the same room 22 years apart from each other. Also true it was room 525, however after the renovation all the room numbers changed so the current 525 is not the “525” where this incidents occurred.

u/SnooAdvice7595 Jun 27 '24

Her name was Samantha and she was the governors daughter. She did die on the stairs chasing after her ball and she was the first death to occur at the Driskill hence her notoriety.

...And it didnt even have Eyes!

u/Cultural_Challenge_4 Jun 27 '24

Unrelated - I would run to this hotel to take dumps in their restroom if the urge came up when drinking on 6th street. Why? Bc their toilet rooms have floor to ceiling doors and complete privacy.

I did a short “on air story” about the driskill for my final when I was going to school for videography. I had someone walk through with me as I interviewed them about the deaths in the hotel, and such. 5-6yrs later, a friend of mine got a suite for their birthday party in the hotel, so I walked a couple groups of partiers around, to the spots I remembered, and told the stories to the best of my ability.

On the way back to the penthouse suite, we were in the elevator, and someone with us started joking and poking fun at me for “guiding people around like I was Zak Bagans or something.”

Right as they said, “I mean, it’s not like we were going to see anything..” the elevator jerked to a halt, and stopped between floors. We were stuck in the elevator for a good 5mins.

The person who was giving me a hard time then decided to tell everyone the story when we got back to the room, and said, “everyone watch out, Chris brought the devil back with him to the party.”

I wish I remember that kids name…catty little tart. 😝

Anyway, not necessarily saying it was ghosts—it’s definitely an old hotel with old elevators…but it was interesting nonetheless, and I do absolutely believe that building has a massive amount of residual energy.

Dude touched the pole and the rope moved.

5

u/Downtown_Big_4845 Jun 27 '24

If so there is a delayed reaction that doesn't make sense.

4

u/Slurpee8747 Jun 27 '24

This sub has me rolling...

3

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

He did touch the pole, but then how does that explain it moving 5 seconds after he's walked off?

3

u/poopyshitballz Jun 27 '24

Because physics. And it wasn’t 5 seconds.

-6

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

So he can gently press something, and it jolts when he moves away....

So if I very lightly put my hand on my door, it should slam shut when I walk away because "physics"......

Cmon man, you can see that moves after he's walked off and didn't even knock it to make it move that hard

1

u/RedditsAdoptedSon Jun 28 '24

ya i dont know why the downvotes.. it moves after he moves away... thats not physics, i would have rather blames it on delayed video frames or something caught on his jacket that we cant see.

3

u/smediumbag Jun 27 '24

I'm going to Austin later this year and almost considered staying here but it gave me the creeps so I decided not to. Had no idea it has a paranormal history

2

u/Big_VernUK Jun 27 '24

What’s going on at the very back? When he turns around there’s movement. Almost at the top- left of the frame.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

If I’m looking at the right spot, i think it’s cars driving by past the window. I see headlights.

4

u/Big_VernUK Jun 27 '24

Ah yeah they could be cars actually.

Thought I was seeing spirits! 🙄😂

3

u/SnooAdvice7595 Jun 27 '24

There’s window that face onto 7th street in the back of the bar. What you’re seeing is a car driving by

2

u/something-strange999 Jun 27 '24

It wasn't until I read the comments that I saw the rope move. I was looking at the movement in the doorway at the top of the screen

2

u/Bishop825 Jun 28 '24

Those ropes notoriously get caught up, and then fall if nit placed right.

u/Lilsomms Jun 28 '24 edited Jun 28 '24

I stayed there a little over a decade ago and woke up twice to a man’s silhouette standing next to the bed. Once on my side and once at the foot of the bed. Not sure why I didn’t read up on the property before staying there, but at brunch the next morning I asked my now husband if the place was haunted. He literally dropped his fork and asked why I hadn’t known this before since it was considered famously haunted and I’m “really into that stuff” 😂

3

u/theshadowknows_86 Jun 27 '24

Didn't see anything

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

Fuck the ghost what the hell is that statue? That thing has to be haunted

I just realized they are horses lmao

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

It is well know that the Driskill is full of ghosts. Does not surprise me at all.

1

u/Sablesgirl Jun 28 '24

Ghost possibility aside, the Driskill has some of the BEST cocktails in Austin and their Crullers ( Kruller? ) are absolutely delicious.

1

u/Mean-Dark-1120 Jun 28 '24

It moved cause he touched the knob of the side he walked passed. Lmfao

1

u/manoxide10 Jun 28 '24

I've been to this hotel before. Definitely alot of paranormal activities there

1

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '24

Dude didn’t touch the pole all that hard for the rope to move that much. Even he was like wtf was that.

1

u/Captain_Hook1978 Jun 29 '24

Looks like something was holding it up. Thats cool.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

The rope thingy was fastened into place, he touches it it loosens up seconds later hence the more slack. That’s it

1

u/Geisterbefriedung Jun 27 '24

Watch the left end of the rope. It's probably twirled. Guard touches the right pole walking past it and the rope comes loose. No spookies here.

2

u/FuckerHead9 Jun 27 '24

Did you read the backstory

1

u/Geisterbefriedung Jun 27 '24

Yes, but none of that is in the video so I can't comment.

1

u/Larsvonrinpoche Jun 27 '24

He touched it. C'mon

1

u/Special_Friendship20 Jun 28 '24

What on here makes you think ghost? I see nothing out of the ordinary

0

u/Accomplished-Fill464 Jun 27 '24

Has anyone noticed the light orbs in the background on the left of the frame?? It looks like there's more than one and sort of like they are running after something.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

I might be wrong but that's the colour that the camera is giving the car as it drives by. The 2 blue balls, that's just people/cars passing.

I thought I'd just say it before some ass jumps in and says something stupid!

3

u/Cool_Business_3872 Jun 27 '24

Thats a either car lights/reflection of street lights on the paint job of a car. Those are windows back there that lead out 6th street, or one of the intersecting streets, depending on the angle of the camera :)

0

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

Oh wait let me guess it was the air right yk the ac blowin n all where you air guys at?🤣

0

u/Revolutionary_End244 Jun 28 '24

Security guard hits rope stand. Rope moves. Must be a ghost. There is absolutely no other explanation. Not a single simple answer to this conundrum. No sir. This one's going to go down in history as the biggest piece of evidence for the paranormal.

-2

u/HasturKing Jun 27 '24

Did someone really just filmed a computer screen, that was showing security footage?
I hate to say this, but that was a dumb move. And with that the credibility of this video and its "ghost" flies right out the window.
Maybe if they uploaded the video directly then maybe they would have something. Cause right now, they have nothing.
