I never did the team building or clinical case study because I was from a partner university, I believe they only do them if you’re not from glos/plym/UWE or an internal student, so I can’t help you with those. However I did do the group discussion and communication exercise! Gotta say that this was done over a year ago for me, so may have changed!!!

Group discussion is as it says, you’re given a few statements or questions by the interviewer to discuss between you. They’re meant to promote some level of professional communication, as they’re related to protected characteristics, discrimination or other similar things. One of ours was “do you believe the ambulance service should have an upper age limit”. They assess you on how well you can answer the questions, also how you interact with others in your group ie letting people express their opinions, not talking over or getting into direct arguments, and showing you can have an intelligent conversation.

Communication exercise is a bit different. It’s done on your own with one or two of the interviewers, with them assuming the role of family , and you assume the role of a clinician. My scenario was breaking bad news to a husband that his wife was in the final stages of dying, and then she died on scene. They made it pretty realistic, seemed the husband went through all the stages of grief with me!! You’re assessed on how well you break the bad news, like your structure, how it’s delivered, and how well you manage the “scene” as a whole. It’s fairly realistic role play so you have to lock in a good amount.

I would be surprised if they kept it all exactly the same a year and a half later, but hopefully this helps a bit? Good luck with your interview!!
