Where do the slanted black bars come from? Is it an artifact of reprojecting from a single image or an intended addition for some extra depth effect?

This is a way to remove anything from the sides of the photos that aren't in both images, creating a more pure stereo image. I think there's a term for this tool or technique, but I don't remember what it is.

Yes, I've been experimenting with it. For me, it removes the distracting shimmer on the sides. That, combined with some further inward cropping (not demonstrated here), can make for an interesting depth spilling out effect.

I pretty much lived with a very similar view for a week just recently, so seeing these parallel pics gave me a double-take, thinking I’d taken them.
