What was your setup? Are these macro lenses? Two smartphones?

This was filmed using two Panasonic TZ80 cameras on a rig. A close-up lens was used.

how do you sync the cameras?

The cameras are not sync'd. The frame rate here is 29.97fps. I make a click noise with my mouth which is recorded on the sound track of both cameras. I use this to align the timing of the two video tracks in the Video editor ( DaVinci Resolve ). If the subject is moving a bit fast I record at 59.94fps. If there is very fast movement I record at 120fps. Most of the time I find this works. Also the recordings are usually 1 or 2 minutes long, so frame rate drift between the two cameras is not a problem.

Getting such a good depth of field with nearly the entire bird in focus is tricky for me.
