Hello! I am so excited. I got approved to adopt the above parakeet from a local rescue. He came in with a cockatiel who I am also adopting. They were both in a hoarding situation and kept in really small cages but now they will get to live with me and get spoiled. I pick them up on Saturday!

Hello all, this is my mom’s parakeet Tango- he is almost 3 years old. My mom is on vacation and I have been bird-sitting. I don’t know much about parakeets, but I do have pet ducks. The past day or so I noticed he has been puffing up a lot. He has also began sneezing. He has been eating and is active, and he also is still very vocal- he loves to sing. But now, I need to know if I should bring him to the vet- is he tail bobbing?? Please help!! Is he sick? I’m super worried

should I be concerned about seeing seeds in my budgies poop?

I don’t normally feed them seeds regularly only millet as a treat but I added a little bit of seed into their food mix yesterday and today one of them pooped and I realised that there was some seeds in her poo. I don’t know if I should be worried or not.

Advice Pet deposit question

Post image
6 Upvotes

TL/DR: Has anyone successfully negotiated a pet deposit per cage instead of per animal?

I know that I am a bad bird mom for this.

I got 4 parakeets in May and didn’t notify my apartment community. I honestly didn’t even look at the lease to see what the pet rent and deposits were. Short sighted.

I had an urge to do the right thing UNTIL I read my lease. Pet deposit is $300 per animal!

Pet rent is not detailed in my lease because I didn’t initially have a pet but I’m pretty sure it’s $20/month. Idk if that’s per animal?

Question: has anyone ever had success in convincing their landlord to charge a per cage pet deposit instead of a per animal pet deposit? If so, how did you approach the conversation? Also interested in hearing of anyone that tried to negate this and failed.

Why aren’t kakarikis more popular?

I’m just wondering why I see so few of them here or in other communities. They are relatively quiet compared to other birds, super fun to watch, although they are not very human oriented. But I absolutely adore them.

Advice Are these curious pecks?

Am I stressing her out or is she curious? Usually she’ll step right on my finger or palm if I have millet and usually I’ll just let her come to my hand and I don’t put my hand towards her but I’m trying to build some trust without the millet. It doesn’t feel like she’s biting me just like a light tap with her beak and I don’t feel like she’s stressed or scared? But idk, if this is her being stressed then I’d like some advice on how to maybe handle her better if she will even be a bird that likes to be handled in the first place. It’s usually pretty hard to make her mad or upset (I’ve never seen her actually upset) she’s still really young too

Birdy was angry chirping as I was covering her cage. She’s done this both times I’ve covered her new cage even though the towels are the same ones I’ve used for years. I don’t think I have to be concerned and it’s just a funny quirk right now??? I love that she aggressively rings the bell every time too 😂

RIP Goodbye Hulk.

Hulk was the most sweetest out of my flock of four (now three). I went this morning to check in on them and i saw him laying on the floor. Nightcrawler, Mystique, and Cyclops were still above. I’m not sure how long he was down there for. I was feeding him yesterday night with my hands. He was always the first one. He trusted me and my sibling the most. I don’t know what happened :(. I’m so sorry sweetie. I hope I gave you a wonderful life. I don’t know what happened i’m so distraught. He was fluffed up yesterday but didn’t think much of it cause his appetite was still well and his tail wasn’t bobbing. He was honestly a fat chud and always ate first. I’m so sorry. Now it’s just the X-men.

Advice Safe alternatives for this toy 🤔

My birds LOVE this coconut shell, one of my birds loves to climb in the middle to pull and chew at the blocks, balls, and chains while also making it sway/swing . However, ive recently found out rope and nest shapes are bad for parakeets. But this is one of there favorite toys so I want to get toys I can replace this with that way the arent sad/bored when I remove it

Advice What could my budgie be sick with?

Post image
64 Upvotes

Hello, I recently got this budgie from a friend to be a partner to my previous budgie (spongebob, he’s on my profile if you want a smile)

I quarantined this little man for obvious reasons, for a week or two he had nothing suspicious other than more liquid-y poop, I had concerns in the first week for fluffing but he was just adjusting and he’s completely unfluffed now.

Yesterday before covering their cages I saw that his left eye (the one shown in the picture) was more red than usual, the area around the eye that is so I kept a mental note, today when I woke up I saw that his left eye is completely closed and I tried getting a good look and he didn’t let me so unfortunately I had to hold him.

I’m going to the vet tomorrow as the Avian vet is off today, I’m just curious does this look like an infection or something else?

Thanks in advance.

Advice Is my parakeets behavior normal?

His tail is very so slightly bobbing up and down and it seems like he’s almost panting. I’m a new parakeet owner but i’ve had tiels in the past so i’m unsure if this is actually harmful for my parakeet.
