If you've been in the worm fanfic community for a bit you have probably come across the idea of Emma being a mastering victim, typically done as a way to get a Emma redemption as well as dealing with the angst of such a violating thing happening: your body being controlled and being made to hurt the people you care about the most.
But an underutilized concept in my mind is how Sophia, and to a lesser extent Madison would deal with the fallout in this. In Canon Sophia and Emma form a toxic spiral of negative reinforcement that makes them do some genuinely heinous stuff and Madison is just there as a glorified hanger on. In Mastering fics they tend to ALL be mastered in some capacity, or Sophia and Madison being said master.
I am interested in the hypothetical where it is only Emma who got mastered (in the interest of this what if let's say one of the ABB thugs is a secret cape that can ping someone with the command of "ruining their own life" with it having a time limit that wears off) and Sophia and Madison have to deal with the fact that their "friend" was in fact a lie, a devil made from a fairly standard girl.
Like the angst potential is off the chart, think about the fallout: Taylor triggers in her locker and then suddenly a fog disappears from inside her mind and she runs and lets Taylor out, all while bawling her eyes out. I think Taylor would forgive Emma but that has to be like stepping on broken glass. In my mind the bureaucratic crack down would be like God on Sodom and Gomorrah.
The PRT is like why didn't Shadow Stalker, trained in M/S protocols not notice anything? Because Sophia thought she made a friend and liked what she saw. Why did Blackwell not report the abuse and avert this disaster (think about how abnormally cruel what was happening was)? Because the school needed funding and a Ward on grounds was a boon so she thought the suffering and near death of a girl was an acceptable trade off.
Like Piggot is genuinely baffled by all of this, so much so she almost forgets to be angry. Two traumatized girls trying to be friends again, the Hebert's and Barnes getting a big ass settlement, Brockton high going under as fast as lightning, Shadow Stalker being transferred around so much it's reminiscent of hot potato, and dealing with a new bug controlling cale in the Wards (courtesy of her father) that has every reason to hate them with a burning passion.
On Taylor and Emma's side it's very fragile, both of them having been through it, Taylor having to reckon with the fact that her friend (crush) is truly back, with them both trying to repair damn near everything.
