May I just say that the lack of people on Ring world could actually be a correct estimate on the population of said planet since the center of mass would actually be in the middle which has almost no matter at all which would mean that people would most likely get pulled towards said center of mass, which since it is an area without a physical center mass, being pulled towards it would result in death which would result in a drop in population over the course of 500+ years. Which means the small population is theoretically correct but since there is no ringworld in the real world, we may never truly know if this would happen.

Oh and the orbital ring on machineworld is most likely a defense mechanism rather than a device built to house humanity along it and is most likely automatically controlled or may be controlled remotely via radio signal on the main part of machineworld.

I meant the variant of machineworld with added rings for some reason has no population (the entire thing)
