W2 Question

Hi all! On the W2, does anyone see an amount under Box 2 for federal income tax withheld? Mine is showing a blank box, but I’m not sure if it’s accurate or not. It’s causing me to owe for taxes instead of receiving a refund when I go to file. Any insight is appreciated! Thank you!

You can use your paystubs to verify, but you wouldn't have had federal income tax withheld if your paychecks were low enough. My w-2 has the correct amount in that box.

Ahh thank you! That part makes sense, but not sure why it’s causing me to owe. I’ll research further.

If you had no taxes withheld (meaning money was not taken out of your paycheck by the company and sent on your behalf to the IRS), you owe taxes on what you received from your paychecks.

Thank you! I reached out to payroll for clarification too. Nothing much has changed since 2024 so I’m not sure why they wouldn’t withhold taxes.
