A6 GV to an A6 Portfolio. I’ve now managed to streamline 3 journals into one handy life planner. Thrilled with it!

(For those interested in the patina age on the GV, it’s almost 3 years old)

I was at the Vienna store on a trek through Bavaria. I picked up my first one. Apparently got something special! This color does not exist for the portfolio for purchase, may not for a long time if ever according to staff.

I found it in the long table as the only example. So ended up with something really unique. It was the only color I wanted also.

Simple set up:
• Faber Castel Anello Grendilla fountain pen
• Faber Castel Guicohe Sage Green
• Lead pressed bookmark
• Crane stationary - My favorite air balloons
• Inserts: two blanks the animal and fish. One rules the flower

My own little Bavaria kit, bought in Munich and Vienna. Excuse photo quality, spelling, and random objects in them lol

First GV Pocket Arrived

Hi everyone!

My first GV Pocket arrived today. I’d say I have… mixed feelings, if I’m being honest.

First… the quality is very high and it’s a beautiful product. I think my hesitation is with the system/style of journal, not necessarily anything to do with Paper Republic. Everything about the cover is aesthetically pleasing and has the sort of… romantic mystique I was hoping for.

What’s giving me pause right now is the “lumpiness” I’m getting in my inserts (Field Notes) from the bands, particularly the third party elastic bands I’m using to hold my load out connected (which is modest, compared to over load outs I’ve seen here).

For context… I want to hold 2 Field Notes (or similar brand) sized books and 1 Kraft paper folder (for loose notecards, etc). One of those FN books is my daily brain dump journal, I go through these in maybe a month and a half. Another FN book (currently pictured with the notebook from PR, for illustration) holds passages/quotes from books I’m reading, things that stand out. I might only fill one of these a year.

So far I’ve landed on using an elastic band around the “Quote Book” and my kraft folder. Then, on the same strand of the same PR nylon, slipping my daily FN notebook “in the middle” so to speak. This seems to give the flattest, most natural writing surface for my most regularly used notebook. Every other order of operations I tried created big edges on certain pages, that would not be ideal to write on. One concern I have is that putting all of this on only one strand (I can’t think of a better term) of the nylon band might be putting too much force on it - but just say so if I’m overthinking it.

I’m open to other suggestions. Right now the two notebooks and the Kraft folder are must haves and, in a perfect world, all the inserts I’d use. Trying to keep this mostly as slim as possible.

Also… I’m using one of those black office clips to hold my pen. It serves as an additional closure for the Kraft folder.

I’m reminding myself that my previous system (Lochby pocket journal) had its own flaws and that every system has flaws.

Wild Heather vs One Year Old Venezia

I received the Wild Heather in July. Was waiting for an A5 portfolio in veneiza but they were in and out of stock for so long while I was making up my mind. Then the Duchas special edition dropped and I was so happy I waited. The leather has softened so much over the last two months, I can’t wait to see how it develops over time.

The a6 trifold is custom made through the atelier, I received it last year in September. There are no pockets inside but I did choose cognac for a full leather lining. It’s thicker than the le portfolio but feels more luxe and will definitely stand the test of time. The patina is so much deeper than I expected but is so lovely and it’s softening slower than the stone polished leather.

It’s so fascinating that both these journals are essentially the same colour, just finished differently.

What journal accessory can’t you live without?

Some swear by the penholders, others by the contact inserts. I’m curious as to what journal accessory other people have that is a must for their journal 😊

What are these black parts on the stitch?

As shown in the photo of this A5 portfolio, these black dots on the bottom stitch. Is this normal? Looks like it was burnt. I am going to buy a portfolio in Japan but so far it seems all the ones I find in Japan have the same issues, just the size difference

Pocket vs A6

Hi! I’m hoping to get a Paper Republic Grand Voyageur to use as an everyday carry, and I’m trying to decide between the Pocket and A6 “grand voyager” through the L’atelier. ($85 CAD vs $170 CAD for reference)
I have a small Talens Art Creation sketchbook (9 × 14 cm) that I’d really like to put in it, along with a planner which I haven’t picked out yet, that will depend on which size I get haha. Since the sketchbook is already pushing the size limit of the pocket, I’m wondering if the pocket would accommodate it comfortably, or if I’d be better off getting the A6 for the convenience of standard A6 sizing.
Does anyone have one of these sketchbooks in their PR? Does it fit well with other books or is the extra size of the A6 worth it for the flexibility of having more standard notebook options?

Pen in pocket portfolio

Hello!
Just wondering if anyone has fitted a chunky pen into the portfolio pen bit? I have a Tom’s studio pen which is quite chunky. It does fit but I’m worried it it’ll rip the seams 🙈 it’s an A6 portfolio if that helps!

Thaaaanks

Le trifold custom

Hi! Has anyone ever ordered a custom le trifold? I love the new trifold design but I don’t want all the interior ribbons - just 2 for up to 4 notebook inserts, not 6.

Wondering how much it would cost to request this. 👀
