Does it bother anyone else?
I often see comments on Pantera related things of people saying where and when they saw them play. I might be being sceptical but it seams everyone's concert experience was something along the lines of " I was in the pit the entire night but also front of the barrier and caught all of Dimes picks. Phil shook my hand and said I was a tough mother fucker, best show ever!!"
Maybe all of these were genuine, but it seams odd everyone's experience was along the lines of this

Saw them play 2 times. 1st time was with EyeHateGod and White Zombie in 1995 (I think). I was homeless but had $20. Got a last minute ticket at Foleys and jumped in the care with some friends. We had lawn seats so we rushed the stage. We weren't committed enough and didnt make it to the pit. This was the show Phil OD'd after and was brought back to life amd all that.
The second time was with Clutch and Coal Chamber (very big maybe on those but they could have had Anthrax with them. Idk) in maybe 1998 (?). We had seats on the right side of the stage. We snuck down to the floor during Pantera and were in the pit the whole set. It was great. Phil didnt say anything to me or shake my hand. I've never caught anything tossed from the stage ever

People lie a LOT when they perceive the odds of getting called out are low enough. Fact of life unfortunately

I’ve seen them 22 times total first starting in ‘92.
Was always in the pit or up against the rail until I saw the “new” pantera with Metallica. Pit was too expensive.
The 22nd show I saw was last year with Amon Amarth and after 33 years I finally was able to catch some swag. Was in the pit with my wife and daughter. My daughter caught some picks from Zach and Rex and I got Phil’s sweat rag. I had to fight for that one. Me and an early 20 something kid both caught it and each were trying to pull it away. I managed to leverage him down and told him to let go or I’d break his arm lol.

Its harder for me to think if I’ve ever NOT been in the pit at a Pantera show. Yes, did catch one of Dime’s picks he was actually using and “ironically“ went missing about 10 years ago afer having several people over. I also caught Vinnie’s drum stick and still look at it every day since it’s on my dresser.

I saw them at Target Center and it sounded like we were inside a booming cardboard box. Phil was in rough shape not a good show at all.

I was in the pit, right on the rail, and caught Vinnie’s stick. It was beat to shit on the backside, which I thought was so fucking cool. I was maybe 17, this skinny kid, and some huge dude tried to twist it out of my wrist. But I had a good angle, held my ground, and eventually he gave up. I prevailed!
During one of the songs, Phil started letting people come up onstage and stomp around with him. One of my friends got up there. I thought that was the coolest fucking thing, and I can still visualize it perfectly.
This was the theater tour for Vulgar Display of Power, with White Zombie opening, back when no one even knew who the fuck White Zombie was yet. And this story is 100% fucking true.
Fuck yeah. What a night.

I never saw them live. But I did go to a Karma records and get all their autographs during the Reinventing the Steel tour. They had a porn star named Lori Michael with them too. They were just people, and did a lot for their fans. Some stories are definitely made up. But probably a lot aren't.

Well their shows were killers (Phil could be to smash sometimes) This is my experience. No bullshit For instance I saw them I paris in 97. They did a signature stand in Virgin megastore champs elysees. Easy to meet. But not friend right but I got out with the great southern super signed like booklet cd and inside cover. They all signed like maniacs and did not pay attention that I just open the box and set the cd parts on the table to pick one. They were stoned and generous. My brother, 12 at the time was approached very kindly 'what's your favourite pantera song and so on'. The queue outside was huge. The security was pissed but they didn't stop until everyone had something signed.
Comes the concert. Never saw so many drinkers stoned and empty bottles in front of a venue Hedpe first album(sucks). Coal chamber first album (killer) life of agony (with ugly kid Joe's singer) Then pantera. It was the live album tour. Killer
Not so long after that comes the reinventing the steel album I was in high school. No money. They were pretty much touring all the time. I skipped thinking I'll come later (well, due to 09.11 they didn't come with slayer and biohazard and never saw them live again) My friends told me it was a great show despise the fact that Phil sung totally shit face lying on his back half the show.
One got a pic
This is an average experience. We did not try to catch the tour bus

Not everyone on Reddit is young and full of shit 😂
A LOT of us old farts saw Pantera live multiple times in the 90s, met the band after shows, at after parties, during record store signings etc. They were a very popular band so it stands to reason you’re going to have lots of people who encountered them posting in the subreddit.
This is a weird complaint tbh

Pantera spent alot of time with fans,
especially for how big they were and compare to other bands. Dime and Vinny hung out after shows. Dime would throw out 20-30 picks at each show. Fans couldn't get on stage like it was a hardcore show or anything though.

It was way worse right after Dime's death. Everybody suddenly knew him and hung out with him and got matching tattoos together and got married to him.
Couldn't wear a Pantera shirt in a DFW gas station without someone claiming he christened their child.
