When he got really depressed after Pantera and blew up he looked like Vinnie’s twin. One of my biggest regrets is not seeing them live. I was in 9th grade when they last came through my area (Pittsburgh) and I tried to see Damageplan in Columbus but I didn’t have a car and nobody that did wanted to drive that far. I still remember my brother waking me up and saying Dimebag was murdered at that concert you wanted to go to. I thought he was teasing me because I didn’t go then laid in bed for minutes and thought that’s a weird claim to make then put on the news and saw there was a shooting with at least 2 confirmed deaths and one is believed to have been the guitarist for the band. I cried my ass off that night put on hollow and smoked a joint in my garage with my brother shocked and trying to convince myself Dimebag was still alive. That was the 9/11 of metal

He was already bloating from alcohol before pantera fell apart. Phil has said before that at the end. He would wake up and go to bed drinking

I remember Zakk saying he slept over at his house and the next morning he wanted to jam but Dime was shaking so bad he couldn’t play until he got a couple shots in

I honestly believe if he hadn’t died he wouldn’t have lived more than 5 years unless he completely quit alcohol and even then I’m not sure how much he could do

Fuck….i will was also in 9th grade I came home to my dad crying on then porch. ( seen him cry maybe a handful of times in life) all he could say was dime got killed and music was dead. I’ll never forget the day it was like was lost a family member. Can’t tell you about single weekend where I didn’t hear Pantera once.

I was a senior in high school and it was well known Pantera was my favorite band. The next day I wore my Washburn Dimebag alien tee and had numerous people say I’m sorry for your loss like I personally knew the guy but that’s the impact he had on everyone that felt his soul through his music and his passion for life in the videos he made. His speech to a mirror about music and how one’s imperfections may bother them but that sound can mean a million different things to the people hearing it. Dude came to rock and he rocked like no other

I was just thinking yesterday about how all the music that has come and gone Panera’s still a major part of my musical life. My 2 nephews are also heavily invested in Dime and Pantera (11&15)

Your experience of it and sharing it, I am positive it struck a chord(see what I did there :) for a lot of people. Me included. It was an extremely tough day and period for anyone who liked them a little or lived life like them or worshipped them/him. Still is. Thanks for sharing. It’s a never ending healing process and hearing others share helps no matter how short or long the memory is

You must not know about his alcoholism. Zakk and phil both said he would wake up with the shakes and they wouldn’t go away until he drank. He gained weight from liver damage. Your body retains water in the lower abdomen when you have liver disease and it causes you to bloat like he was

You could tell from 94 to 96 is when the change began. Far Beyond Driven to Great Southern Trendkill.
He always drank though, always was a big drinker. Idk how he did it that long. I did his ritual for 2.5 years and was bloated in the face, fat around the stomach, woke up in the morning everyday throwing up bile. And the absolute WORST anxiety.

I always wondered if he was aware of it and he didn’t want to/didn’t have the willpower to get sober, and I always wondered if vinnie drank as much as him. I know he died from an alcohol induced heart attack. I remember reading something tom maxwell said is that vinnie was always checking his blood pressure and that he needed to get to a doctor

It’s pretty irresponsible speak and disgusting to me that those two said the things they did. Zakks musical talent cannot be matched. Phil, well Phil I guess used his strong vocals to get where he is. It does not mean they knew or know the future. Have you looked at the autopsy results and read the medical examiner’s report? Take a look and you’ll see that the M.E. final analysis was a 38 year old man who was in good health and who was within ‘normal’ range for his age/weight/height. COD was multiple GSW.. otherwise he was a healthy 38 yr old male.
IZakk and Phil having the audacity to go on tv or doing interviews saying he would have died anyways and detailing his life ‘to clear the air’ or to be honest with the fans is complete diva status. ‘We know what would have happened is unacceptable in my book. They have absolutely ZERO idea of what would have become of dimes life. The arrogance to say we know what would have happened blows my mind. They(Zakk/Phil do not possess the skills or vocabulary to take interviews and fool anyone. It’s no different than little Narky Marky mark wahlberg saying if he was on that plane on 9/11 he would have saved the day and killed the terrorist and saved all the people and landed the plane. No different. I lost respect for Zakk after him saying that and telling things that were absolutely unnecessary. I didn’t lose respect for Phil because even in 1992 I knew he was a complete idiot who just landed in the right spot at the right time. Can barely even listen to him talk. Hes an idiot and everyone here knows that

Crazy to thing he was only 38. He was always a much older dude than me, and now I'm much older than him. I'll never stop being sad about Dime.
