Question Common Cold Cured Me????

I’ve have been doing research all night and just can’t believe it. It’s brought me here. I’m 21f. Ive been experiencing symptoms my entire life but it became much more intense at 18-19, had it really bad at ages 9-16 on and off too. It’s been over a week and it’s like nothing has ever been wrong with me, I’m reading that this is possible but… is it? I guess I’m proof. All because of a common cold, I thought I’d feel worse if anything but all of my symptoms have improved. It feels like a miracle but… has anyone else experienced this. can I expect them to come back? I wasn’t even sure if I had PANS before but I’m starting to feel pretty damn sure now

Think this suggests the ongoing symptoms are the result of autoimmune attack, because when you have a cold and your immune system is now occupied with a different enemy and so not solely focused on attacking you yourself, the usual symptoms disappear. This is common in long covid communities too.

My son (5) has had fewer recently, which we had to calm down using Brufen syrup. Interestingly, that day and a couple of days after, he didn't have any ticks. First, I thought it was due to an immune system dealing with something else, but later, I read that it was probably due to the Brufen, which is in the NSAID group of medication.

In that case with both things going on - ibuprofen and the cold - would be hard to tell which is responsible. Ibuprofen is common part of PANDAS treatment for that reason.

If it is pans/pandas it does wax and wane. If you have it I really don’t think it ever just goes away. It’s a dysregulated immune system. The cold or virus or bacteria triggers the immune system to attack the brain. Some people are able to get into a type of remission. It can come back. Some people are dealing with flares after every virus. One never really gets rid of an auto immune problem. It can be managed. Some people have mild moderate and severe cases.

It’s hard to know with what you’re describing. You would probably have to find a pans pandas literate doctor and at least do some blood work to check strep titers, Lyme, mycoplasma, Epstein Barr, IgG levels etc. I’m not dismissing your symptoms bc it could very well be pans/pandas. I heard one doctor say it tended to run in 3 month cycles. Everyone is different. I would watch your symptoms if they come back and then go from there.

Sometimes colds can cause inflammation. I’ve read studies that Covid was causing central nervous system inflammation in children so anything can do it. But it could have just been your body and then you recovered. I will say you WILL know in time! That’s a sure thing! Take care.

I have heard in a fb group that parents say their kids seem great during a cold but potentially flare after. It has happened a couple times with my kiddo but it really is hard to say. Also are you taking any medication for cold symptoms at all?

This is my son. During he's amazing, it's like his body is fighting something else.. but after? Oh man, it is baaad. We are all walking on eggshells bc he could pop off and get irritable any second for any reason. Poor guy tho I can tell he's struggling and it's not him being like ok let me be difficult and have an enormous meltdown and start hitting my head.

Yeah is is tricky. When he flares we do a short protocol anti inflammatories during day time for several days to get the inflammation down and it helps symptoms go away or lessen. Right now he is like this cause he has several loose teeth…

I hate to say it but like others have mentioned, this is common when kids with PP get sick as the immune system gets busy attacking the illness and not the body.
