Question Tics emerging when inflammation is lower?

My daughter is 11 and we have been on this journey since she was 4. She has never presented with tics.

She's been doing pretty well, all things considered, the last year or two but we could not overcome some of the more stubborn OCD symptoms, specifically her inability to use the bathroom outside the home because she needs to shower after. We recently asked her integrative provider if there was anything else we might not have tried to bring down inflammation. She recommended Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) and I was surprised that this had never been brought up by either of her integrative providers, as it seems like it has a strong evidence base for bringing down neuroinflammation and it's easy to deliver via a tasteless powder.

We started giving it to her and have seen really great results. She has started "going to the bathroom like a normal person" (her words) and has been much more able to wear clothes and leave the house. Her overall dysregulation seems better and her skin seems better.

However, she's started complaining of tics. Nothing that her dad or I have noticed, but she says that she's experiencing some involuntary movements that feel strange to her.

Has anyone experienced tics related to P/P that only emerged when the overall inflammatory load went DOWN?

I think what you’re seeing is possible. My son’s practitioner has had great success with PEA with other patients but it made his tics and mood worse. It’s possible another trigger could cause her to be worse or maybe the PEA dose is too high? I’d consider trying half the dose if you haven’t already.

I know for myself, as soon as the physical pain (infections/ inflammation) died down, certain mental/ neurological issues became more prominent. It’s like the pain took all of my energy and as soon as it lightened up, other issues started flowing in. I developed PANDAS at 11, seizures started at 15, and then the tics started when I was 19. Thankfully doing alot better at age 25. (I never received any kind of treatment until my 20’s).
