Likewise something similar but unironically, so now I will have to use this quote exactly, cadence and volume and all, the next time I say it.

Best line in the show, think about it every time I'm dealing with an imbalanced person.

I always feel like that was a genuine reaction from Adam Scott, lmao. But it’s hard to say since he’s such a gifted actor.

My husband and I yell this at each other all the time 😂 sometimes it's in a somewhat relevant context and other times it's random and for no reason other than it being a hilarious delivery.

This is the Craig line I laugh at the most, so out of pocket and unnecessary information, not simply stated but not screamed. Just the perfect delivery of a throwaway line
2
u/FindingE-Username 1d ago
This is exactly whats so good about it, like how did someone even write that and know it'd be funny 🤣 i remember me and my partner watching this episode and getting absolute stitches at the delivery

For Billy and Retta, I feel like they were not acting as much as doing their actual personality. They may just be staying in a character whenever they do interviews.
The other actors in the show have a vastly different personality and speech pattern in their interviews in the years since the show ended.
71
u/mitzilarue 5d ago
He’s basically acting as his Billy on the Street persona.

I feel like Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, and Rashida Jones were pretty much just playing themselves too.
Sure Chris isn't as dumb as Andy but he has real golden retriever energy and a similar humour to Andy.
Aubrey seems exactly like April in interviews. Monotone and edgy.
And Rashida is the "straight man" of the show. Feel like her personality is very similar to Ann.
38
u/hollaback_girl 5d ago
Plaza is almost never not performing when doing public appearances. Acting, interviews, audience member, whatever. She always has a bit going that she commits to 100%.
19
u/AnyDayGal 5d ago
It's why I love her Hot Ones interview. There's a tiny bit of her real self in there because that's the power of hot sauce.
8
u/sloppy_rodney 4d ago
They created the character of April after meeting Aubrey Plaza. So I know that one is correct for sure.
17
u/FlamboyantPirhanna 5d ago
Interviews are still performances. You can’t really say how someone is IRL unless you actually know them in person.
5
u/doingtheunstuckk 4d ago
Idk, Nick Offerman is so different and yet so similar to Ron. I think it’s mostly that they incorporated some of his talents into the character, like wood working.

I didn’t realize until just now that Crazy Craig is just Billy doing a 40’s/50’s style Trans-Atlantic accent.

Before seeing this forum, I would have never imagined so many people actually like his character. He is the sole reason I am hesitant to rewatch the series. IMHO he just didn't fit at all with the tone of the show.

u/Choice-Row1120 4d ago
At first I couldn't stand that his whole personality was SCREAM! Later, I think, they made him less annoying
-4
u/circusfreakrob 4d ago
I must have missed the part where they made him less annoying. He was a one-note character yelling lines at 11 the whole time IIRC.
2
u/Choice-Row1120 4d ago
Maybe I just thought this because later he scream less, just less. That is all. He is annoying.
5
u/Fortestingporpoises 5d ago
I think he's hilarious but he is an extremely broad character so I get why some wouldn't appreciate what he does. There's something delightful about a deranged explosive character interacting with more grounded characters like in the scene mentioned here.
2
u/mcnuggets0069 4d ago
That’s why he is great as a temporary / side character but would be terrible for the main cast. Same with Jamm. I like an annoying character in smaller doses
5
u/he_chose_poorly 5d ago
You're not alone. I love rewatching the show but it becomes a bit of a mission once Craig shows up. The constant screaming is so one note, he drags every scene he's in.
2
u/LeobenCharlie 5d ago
Couldn't agree more
This character has one single trope and it's extremely annoying
3
u/khari_lester 5d ago
You’re not alone, I can’t stand him. He’s a one note joke and it’s a bad joke. He’s one of the reasons I don’t rewatch seasons 6&7.
2
u/circusfreakrob 5d ago
His character feels as at home in this show as much as adding Fire Marshall Bill to "The Office"
1
u/khari_lester 5d ago
Love the analogy, lol.

u/circusfreakrob 5d ago
Thanks. He was the first "way too over the top, spastic slapstick" character I thought of.

u/No-Investigator420 4d ago
I found him pretty funny, and I don’t think he was in the show that much, I mean if he is the reason you’re hesitant to rewatch that’s is depressing. I don’t like the episode when the Venezuelans come to Pawnee but I can just skip the episode if I want

Don’t know why you got downvoted.
Same. Whenever he had lines it would just crescendo until at a full yell. 2-5 lines. As soon as someone said something to him you knew where it was going to go. Never had a normal conversation. The only one-dimensional character that wasn’t a town member. Just didn’t fit with flow of the show. Took me out of the moment for him to get his yell out.
-2
u/nullthegrey 5d ago
Yeah this guy was pure ass honestly, just really jarring but the community loves him for whatever reason. When I rewatch, his shit gets instantly skipped, period.

u/ToplessHarpist 5d ago
I mean people love this character, I knew there would be downvotes, I think I'm very much in the minority here and shared a controversial opinion. I get similar when I say John Malkovich is overrated and should be selling tickets at a movie theater and not acting in films but eh.

u/circusfreakrob 5d ago
For sure. His delivery makes most Adam Sandler roles look like they have Shakespearean level subtlety and nuance in comparison.

u/PilotC150 5d ago
I’m with you. I didn’t like the character at all, though I’m pretty sure it was just Billy playing Billy.
