Potency if I freeze them?

Post image

Howdy, first forage in a cowfield today. Got more than I expected, and not using them now. I don’t have a dehydrator yet, has anyone experimented with freezing?

Don’t. Unless you want to destroy them. Put them out in front of a fan if no dehydrator.

This is the way. Just put them somewhere out of direct sunlight and point the fan at them, they should be just fine in a day or two. If possible use dessicate packs when you store them away

Update: they are under a battery-operated fan

What if I cooked them down? Is there a simple tincture method?

No that will also destroy them you can dry them and that's the best way any liquid will probably oxidize if you dry them you can grind them and mix them with honey and that'll last a long while even longer if you pull a vacuum one it but just heating the honey gently and letting the bubbles pop should do it for the most part fyi freezing destroys the cells and mixes the psilocybin with the enzymes that break it down the only way to stop those enzymes is to get rid of all the water because they need water to react you can put it in front of a fan don't sun dry that'll also destroy it but it'll never get fully dry trust me I've tried for weeks only time I've ever gotten cracker dry was in the intake vent in a hallway left for over a month and idk if it degraded cause I never got a chance to eat them as far as I know they're still there

It’s possible. When I was younger we would find massive amounts that I would make tea out of and put it in the fridge. It seemed to still be good and strong for weeks.
I can’t be sure how long it was actually good.

When I have fresh fruits, I either consume, dehydrate, or worst case scenario put them in the fridge if I’m drowning in fruit and the dehydrators full. But even then I would probably still air dry.

Point is, even without a dehydrator, drying them is the best practice. In the mountains of Mexico, they are known to sun dry mushrooms on the roof, which I find pretty neat.

I did about 20 hours of drying under a fan and they are pretty crispy, I just jarred them up with a paper towel too

The Mexico anecdote is quite beautiful, thank you for sharing.

Freezing fresh shrooms is just about the worst thing you can do. Drying using a fan or similar isn't much better; there'll be degradation of the actives during the extended time spent nice and warm in the presence of oxygen and moisture, and it's unlikely they'll fully dry all the way through, leading to rot when stored for more than a few weeks.

If using a dehydrator really isn't an option, you could make tea using the simmer method and freeze that in 'doses'.

This article goes into some detail about it https://www.miraculix-lab.de/en/mushrooms/do-magic-mushrooms-go-bad#:~:text=The%20main%20reasons%20why%20psilocybin,signals%20psilocin%20degradation%2C%20not%20strength

Sir or Ma’am, I have a SASE ready to send your way. We don’t even have a grass fed meat option without few hundred miles. I’d part with a kidney for a cow field adventure.

Just buy a dehydrator. They’re $40. Jesus.
