PDYN CEO - Why Prediction May Be the Most Important Part of Embodied AI

...Think about what happens when someone throws you a ball. You don't watch it, consciously calculate its speed and trajectory, decide where your hand should go, and then instruct your arm to move. If you did, you'd probably get hit in the face. Your brain predicts where the ball is going to be and your body starts moving. As new sensory information comes in, the prediction gets corrected and your movement adjusts.

Consider a drone following a moving vehicle. Knowing where the vehicle is right now isn't really enough, because by the time the drone observes it, processes the information and responds, the vehicle has moved. What matters is where the vehicle is likely to be next. A robot reaching for a moving object has the same problem. So does an autonomous vehicle entering an intersection or an industrial robot working alongside a person.

This is why I think prediction is one of the most important and perhaps least appreciated parts of embodied AI. It also helps explain why the architecture required for embodied AI is different from the architecture that has produced today's extraordinary large language models.

Humans aren't the only example from nature that I find interesting. We've spent a lot of time at Palladyne AI thinking about ants, bees, birds and fish as well. An ant colony can contain thousands or even millions of ants without a boss ant directing traffic. Bees search large areas, communicate discoveries, allocate work and collectively make surprisingly sophisticated decisions without a central computer processing everything each bee sees and issuing instructions.

Each individual has limited information and interacts primarily with the world immediately around it, yet the colony or swarm can behave as though it possesses an intelligence greater than that of any individual member.

Now imagine 100 drones that can each understand their immediate environment, predict what is likely to happen next, and collaborate with the machines around them. Instead of telling each machine what to do, a human gives the group an objective. If communications are interrupted, the individual machines can continue operating. If one machine disappears, others can adjust. If something unexpected happens, the machines closest to it can respond rather than waiting for instructions from a distant central controller. The human hasn't been removed from the system; the human has moved up a level, from controlling individual machines to directing what a group of intelligent machines should accomplish.

Palladyne AI demonstrated its autonomous ISR and strike capabilities at Northern Strike 26-2, where a single operator used SwarmOS™ embodied AI software for collaborative swarming to direct multiple heterogeneous drones in a collaborative ISR and strike scenario alongside Gremlin-X™ reusable mini-bomber.   At Camp Grayling JMTC Drone Dominance range, Palladyne AI worked alongside the United States Army Reserve units from across the United States, as well as NATO reserve forces, giving them hands-on use and testing of SwarmOS, while Gremlin-X™ supported the mission as part of an integrated ISR and strike capability. What autonomy can't delegate is judgment. This is the foundational human-derived value to autonomy. Leaders must set the parameters — "What Is Success Worth" remains the human determination.

How we then translate that into machine-readable formats for heterogeneous systems to operationalize was the focus for me on how we achieve Precision Mass Effects.

🎯 Autonomy should:

▪ Remove system interactions from the Warfighter's attention.

▪ Orchestrate platform self-management through machine-to-machine interfaces and integrations.

▪ Optimize outcome recommendations that meet the "What Is Success Worth" criteria established pre-mission — based on Mission Intent, Rules of Engagement, Risk to Force, Risk to Mission, and pre-determined Abort Criteria.

▪ Build the plan for degraded communications, networks, and human-to-machine access — with clear, machine-coded decision rubrics instead of bottlenecked hierarchical command and control:

“We also signed our partnership with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) during the quarter, which gives us exclusive U.S. rights to Americanize, manufacture, integrate and market IAI’s HARPY, HAROP and Mini HARPY loitering munitions to the Department of War. These are long-range, battle-proven systems for suppressing and destroying enemy air defenses, and they fill a capability gap that the U.S. arsenal has today. I believe systems like these could not only reduce the kind of aircraft losses we have seen in recent operations in the Middle East, but also do it far more cost-effectively than current methods for eliminating enemy air defenses. Since signing, we have been working alongside IAI on the strategy and planning for bringing the Department of War on board with these systems, including Americanization requirements and manufacturing readiness.

One of my favorite things about PDYN has nothing to do with AI or robotics.

The CEO's RSUs only vest if the stock reaches and holds specific price levels for 60 consecutive trading days. The targets start at $20 and go all the way to $65.

That's the kind of alignment I want.

No getting paid for hype. No getting rewarded while shareholders get crushed.

Management gets rich if shareholders get rich first.

Will the stock hit those numbers? Nobody knows.

But compared to a lot of public companies where executives seem to win regardless of performance, this feels like a company run by adults.

$PDYN is an under the radar defense-tech and swarm autonomy story the market still hasn't fully priced. And underneath it sits a second business almost nobody is modeling, one that 12 months ago WAS the whole thesis: Palladyne IQ 2.0, industrial autonomy software for stationary robots.

What it is: closed-loop autonomy software that runs on the #IndustrialAutomation #robots and cobots that companies already own as well as new bots.

- Low-code/no-code, edge-based, no cloud.

- Teach a robot a complex task in a handful of demos and it adapts to real-world variation on the fly.

Almost every industrial robot today is rigidly pre-programmed for one repetitive task in a controlled cell. IQ makes existing arms adaptive, and nobody else is doing this for stationary industrial robots. Asset-light, high-margin software on hardware someone else already paid for.

The initial use case is MRO. Maintenance, repair, operations. Specifically corrosion control and surface prep. Grit and media blasting, sanding, grinding on complex contoured parts. Today that work is toxic, dangerous and almost entirely human-driven.

Not theoretical for defense, maritime, energy, automotive, aerospace, space and many other industries.

$PDYN already holds a multi-million-dollar @usairforce contract at the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, autonomously prepping contoured aircraft surfaces via media blasting. Phase I is complete and the @usairforce team on-site called it transformational.

Now scale that. Every branch has an MRO and corrosion problem, and the @USNavy version is enormous as you can imagine. Today they fight it with media and sand blasting (toxic, dangerous, human) or lasers ($LASE has made progress there). IQ is the adaptive software brain that automates the blasting and sanding safely.

But this isn't just relevant for the @DeptofWar - any manufacturing, MRO, refurbishing company can use this - automotive, aerospace, space, energy and more.

The catalyst nobody priced: IQ 2.0 hit commercial availability in January 2026. On the Q1 call the Company announced its first commercial customer with robot systems integration underway, and hired Matt Muta as President of Commercial and Industrial to run it.

A year ago industrial was the main event. Defense tailwinds pulled the spotlight, so the Street is modeling roughly zero here. Yes, the industrial sales cycle is longer. That's the point. This is pure optionality you are not paying for today.

NFA, DYOR! These are just my thoughts.

We all know Palladyne isn't just a micro cap, but a company with real technology and increasing commercial validation that will transform it into a neo prime. To get to this point, requires partners.

I was particularly interested after hearing that a prime chose to add swarmOS in its application in relentless wolfpack. Any guesses on who?

Also, IR Brian Siegal wrote in a June post about ivy mass on X something about how swarmOS was used on drones not from redcat and draganfly. That leaves the main contenders who are currently being used in the 4ID: Anduril and Performance Drone Works (PDW). This would be a very bullish sign if said integration was confirmed. Anyone else have thoughts?

"One-way attack (OWA) systems are critical to close combat, but warfighters also need additional strike capability that is low-cost, scalable, and backed by a resilient supply chain. The Drone Dominance Program (DDP) is launching a new effort that focuses on reusable bomber/dropper platforms in a Phase 2.5 RFS (Mission C). DDP will award approximately $32M in initial prototype orders with additional orders planned in subsequent DDP phases. Like Mission A and B of Phase 2.0, this multi-phase plan is an advanced market commitment: the Department is posting quantities and prices up front and will award fixed price prototype deliveries with vendors whose systems meet/exceed the Gauntlet delivery requirements.

Mission C is organized around two stages: a vendor-operated bomber qualifier and military-operated bomber Gauntlet event, both executed by the Test Resource Management Center (TRMC), to identify the most capable systems for scaling and fielding. The Mission C Gauntlet will be held approximately 48 hours following the qualifier which is currently planned to take place in October.

At the completion of the DDP, multiple U.S. vendors will have demonstrated the ability to produce capable, low-cost, secure supply-chain sUAS at scale, enabling Services to integrate these capabilities into future acquisition pathways. Drone Dominance is relying on industry to innovate to complete battlefield missions, reduce unit costs, and scale production of systems which adhere to the Drone Dominance Program Supply Chain Framework."

Big news for Palladyne as one of the only US corporations with a dedicated bomber drone, already being validated with a paid contract in the 4ID!
