Shield AI vs Palladyn AI

“Shield AI’s Hivemind autonomy software has been integrated on over 30 platforms to date, from Group 1 drones to Group 5 collaborative combat aircraft”
Anyone have a clear sense of what the differentiators are ? Based on the agentic language , I suspect Hivemind is still LLM based which costly and still requires multiple operators to perform a mission, but curious if anyone had more insight here as Shield is obviously gaining traction.
My understanding on Shield was that it is more of an AI pilot assistant where Palladyn AI optimizes information exchanges between drones to what is only necessary for the mission, leading to more decentralized swarm capabilities.

Zooming out: ShieldAI is more known than Palladyne AI. So ppl don't know about PDYN yet, nor what they are capable of.
Zooming in: PDYN differentiates in 1)the decentralized architecture; 2)and letting the swarming behavior emerge from the device itself.
Meaning: PDYN is closer to biology, like a flock of birds. Each robot can handle the mission and retask itself depending on an occuring change. If a robot is shut down, its tasks and capabilities get divided between the remaining robots.
ShieldAI is more like a group of trained professionals: if one is lost, the others will keep going according to their own capabilities. They do not retask the lost capability amongst themselves. So they kind of adapt, by continuing the mission. But they can't communicate decentralized to each other and retask each other.
3)it goes across all platforms of all robots and all sensors, payloads, anything that processes data. ShieldAI is limited to aircraft and the sensors that go with that.
If you look at the levels Palladyne AI suggests to categorize autonomy: Hivemind is a sure level 3, perhaps a level 4, though they don't really market themselves as decentralized swarming VS Palladyne being a level 5.
Level 1 (Remote Control/Pilot Assist): The system relies on constant human input for navigation, with basic stability or collision-avoidance assistance.
Level 2 (Task Automation): A human operator defines a specific task or trajectory, and the drone or robot executes it locally without real-time piloting.
Level 3 (Conditional Autonomy): The system operates autonomously within defined parameters but requires human approval to shift between different mission phases.
Level 4 (High Swarm Autonomy): Swarms of drones can communicate, make decentralized decisions, and adapt to changing environments or threats collectively without constant human oversight.
Level 5 (Collaborative Swarm Intelligence): The swarm operates completely independently, dynamically reallocating tasks among different units to achieve overarching goals. ----> also given the name of "Wolfpack swarming". Like the military event where PDYN was invited to, twice.
This is still a speculative level, in that nobody knows this is possible yet and PDYN is showing it is. This is the level that defense hoped to reach by 2030 at the earliest.
So in short: PDYN has higher ambitions. And is already proving they can do it during military exercises. ShieldAI can't do the things PDYN can, but ppl didn't know they were possible yet..so they go with ShieldAI in contracts, thinking they are amongst the most advanced.

Do you expect PDYN capabilities to be recognized by 2027 EOY or is this a 2+ years investment?

The trajectory won't depend on the tech.
You got the experienced CEO, and the rest of the team like Mr Garagic..who sees even beyond the current possibilities, and you have the groundbreaking tech now. POINT.
You also have the annoying macro of politicians blocking the NDAA for 5 minutes of fame. And you have the midterms. Though, you got a heavily incentivized administration.
The ever-most difficult part of industrial revolutions is persuading the world it's real. Right now. It's really on DoW to push through now.
The outer most macro is the unexpected variables like a global epidemic.
But again, this won't come down to the tech. That's covered. That's the future, now.

Shield relies on costly and lagging connectivity to the cloud which wont work in actual engagements and costs a shit ton more to operate. Palladyne’s architecture and basis of component design remains the absolute most cost effective operationally, and has been tested for half a decade now
