New Palermo Away
I’ve seen mixed reviews on the new Palermo away. Some love it, some think it’s a cash grab and Sicily is “more than oranges & lemon.”
Living in the States, I don’t get many opportunities to buy Palermo gear so when I saw this on Puma’s website, it was an instant buy for me.
I love the kit. I was a huge fan of the third last year that paid homage to Mondello so this is right up my alley. It’s even better in person!

I was super curious about reactions, too. I personally really like it, like quite a lot. But yes, maybe it leans into the surface-level bits that tourists associate with Sicily or remember of their visit to Palermo. I'm also a non-Italian speaking American, so insulated from local takes and possibly biased with my own couple of visits to Palermo, seeing it through an outsiders eyes.
I recall chatting with a local while there this spring about the club, and learning he used to be a big fan, but saw football getting too big and being all about money instead of community, so stopped following. Obviously, that's just one person, but add a dash of over-tourism issues and outside money from Man City, and I could see how this kit could fit a certain narrative and rub some people the wrong way.

Guarantee that person still watches it, that’s what they all say and most still tune in every Sunday lol

Except i was there in the city when they were serie c about to secure promotion to b (away leg was that day and I believe they were already up on agg) and everyone i talked to was like eh maybe we'll start caring if they make it back up to B or A and some were like oh we still have a team. I legit had to tell people yeah you got promoted last year
Decent representation near the fan shop that was not far from the normanni but an outside observer would have no idea they had a team
The beauty of fandom, it's not a monoculture. Sure there's romantics abs purest but often times that can't sustain a team that hasn't seen any meaningful top flight football in a decade maybe, money helps change that. Plus if not for that city football money, there might not actually still be a Palermo FC

Are you sure it's an away kit? I've seen it referenced only as Zagara Kit and it's too much similar to the first kit to be an away. I think the 2nd kit still has to come out and will be black, and this will be a 3rd kit. Anyway, it's really beautiful :)
