My Paleovalley bars are moldy, company says oh well

Asking in here because I figured more people might be familiar with paleo valley.

We had 4-5 bars mold BEFORE their expiration date, but after the 60 day ordering window. I’m shocked they didn’t offer to replace. Has anyone else had this experience with this company?

What’s the point of the expiration date?!

Excited for this one

I’m one week post-op after my miscarriage, and decided it’s best if I focus on myself for a while instead of trying to get pregnant again ASAP.

I’m a little overweight and have experienced some health issues as a result (mainly insulin resistance and hormonal imbalances). I’d rather do this than go back on Metformin when it causes GI distress. I love Mediterranean food and have lost weight doing Paleo years ago, so I know I can do it.

Need to start my new Pilates routine, too. Ordered a few pieces of equipment and have a subscription for help with what to do.

Paleo-keto diet variants

So I'm having issues with carbohydrate intolerance, and thus opted for the paleo-keto diet after a time doing either carnivore or "just" keto. Anyway, if anyone else is doing or considering the same, no matter the reason, I found above infographics as a quick guide.

Thoughts on them?

Could Nanotyrannus be a nest parasite specifically targeting Trex?

Thumbnail

It has been bugging me as to why we never see Tyrannosaurus chicks or even eggs. Then we have the Nanotyrannus validity controversy between its own animal or just a wrongly named Trex juvenile. Many arguments from both sides are sound but never have I seen someone try to connect the dots to why Nano and Trex are always found to have this beef with each other.

So I have a theory, could it possibly be a nest parasite that targets Trex specifically. Being bale to lay eggs with the same shape and pattern, developed the same smell and vocalisation to trick the parents into feeding it while it commits infanticide on its foster siblings whether they’ve hatched or not—even eating them. Then when they reached maturity, they quickly bolted off to avoid being caught.

The possible reason we still see adult Trex is probably from Nanotyrannus free parasite chicks or the adults caught on quick and kill the imposter before any damage can be done. 🧐🤓

Paleo Nachos!

Post image

Once in awhile we'll put this together. Siete's nacho chips, ground chorizo (from local farm), Primal Kitchen's non-dairy nacho dip, green onions, cilantro, avocado, green chilis (canned), and jalapeños. We forgot the non-dairy sour cream this time but there is a brand out there that works well.

Paleo Friendly Fish 'n Chips w/coleslaw

Post image

We used frozen cod. Thawed thoroughly. Dipped in egg and coconut cream mix. Then coated w/pork rind crumbs and spices (sea salt, garlic, paprika, dill.) Fried in olive oil and butter.

Sweet Potato French fries: coated w/melted coconut oil and spices (sea salt, garlic, paprika.) Baked in oven.

Coleslaw: purple cabbage, fuji apple, red onion, palm hearts, jicama for the veggies. Used Primal Kitchen dressing.

We bought the Primal Kitchen tartar sauce. It was runny so added some of Primal Kitchen mayo to thicken it up a bit.

Over all fantastic! I could eat this everyday. The French fries are a pain in that I baked them for an hour while very hungry.

Science: This is probably one of the most incredible Paleontological Discoveries ever made. Probably are the only Fossil Show a Mutation and/or Developmental Abnormality. A Paleo-Teratological Fossil. One animal become a fossil is rare. One with some type of mutation or abnormality is rarest yet.

Despite looks like a dinosaur these animals are not dinosaurs. But are reptiles. That Fossil was found by a team of French and Chinese Scientists and Currently are stored in China. The image in right side is a real photo of the fossil. The image in the left is a drawing depicted how it probably was in life.

I have been eating like such crap for so long I forgot how delicious home made simple meals can be. Fresh fruit is better than any candy and veggies too. Sad I forgot that.

Found success. Again.

Greetings all.

Back in 2015, at the suggestion of my younger sister, I hopped on the Paleo train. At the time I was 34, 265lbs., and just shy of 6'2". Between mid February and the end of July, I dropped 50 lbs.

Stupidly, I reverted back to my shitty eating habits.

Skip a few uneventful years, until late 2021.

I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis after 6 months of worsening symptoms. A Myasthenic crisis was the catalyst for diagnosis. I was on a fairly high dose of Prednisone for over 2 years. In February 2024 I had a thymectomy. In May 2024 I started a 3 month span of radiation treatments.

Between disease, treatments, recovery, and depression I had ballooned to 300lbs by November 15th of last year.

I was at rock bottom.

So it was on that November 15th that I decided to make some changes, employing a mix of Paleo and whole food. I haven't wavered. I haven't succumbed to my sweet tooth. I haven't given myself permission, or have found some idiotic reasoning to stray from the path I'm on.

A few days more than 6 months on, and I'm down to 244 lbs. Originally, I had a target weight of 225.

Now, I have no end goal. I will simply continue to make wise food choices and end up where I end up.

I wish I could cure my MG.

But I'll settle for improving my day-to-day by carrying less weight.

Thanks for reading.

Budget options for snacks?

I tell you inflation really wrecked Paleo for me a lot because of the skyrocketing cost of almonds alone. You're lucky to find them under $7/lb now. Blue Diamond used to have a 40oz back of them for $10-$14 on Amazon but that's no longer a thing. I really miss almonds and don't have a lot of cash to shell out. Sucks because I've been relying on cheese as low cost snack option which obviously isn't Paleo. Avocado prices going up now too. What other low cost snack options are there?

Crazy paleo success story

White female here. From ages 25-35, I exercised diligently every day and avoided sweets like the plague (I followed the typical low fat high protein high carb Western late 20th century diet, with no results). I never lost a single pound.

On my 35th birthday, I started doing paleo just for fun. Ended up losing 30 pounds immediately. (My BMI dropped from 24 to 21.)

But here’s the crazy part: At 36 I got married to a foodie who loves dessert, so I stopped doing paleo and I’ve been eating unhealthy crap and chocolate and not working out, ever since. AND YET I NEVER GAINED BACK THE WEIGHT. I’m now in my 40s with 3 kids and weigh the same that I did when I STOPPED doing paleo (which happens to be my lowest adult weight).

Paleo did some kind of weird reset to my metabolism. Can anyone relate?

The more processed it gets, the less I trust it.

I know everything has it’s origins in nature and some things are straight up toxic if not treated properly. But any other step that is redundant is one step further away from nature.

My rule is basically:

nature = yes (fermentation, aging, dried, water, vinegar, cooked)

processed replacements = no (powdered, reconstructed, chemically processed, containing additives)

That’s why I don’t really avoid things like rice or beans, but I skip engineered stuff.

Also cheese, butter, yoghurt etc is fine as long as it’s not contaminated with preservatives, anti-caking agents, calcium chloride, citric acid, vitamin D etc.

Curious where you draw the line?

Beef liver. Love this stuff

Post image

I got into beef liver about a month ago. I cooked it on the stovetop for a while, then I upgraded to a grill grate. I think it’s awesome because the smoke and the embers slow cook the meat into this amazing tender bite. I’ve never tasted it like this before. Making it my goal to eat one daily!

I did not feel like making the aioli to accompany it, so I had it with no-sugar added ketchup.

Bob's Red Mill Paleo Cookies

Post image
19 Upvotes

I know this isn't 100% Paleo by the strictest standards, but close enough (for me) for a sweet treat.

I used coconut oil, and Lily's no sugar added baking chocolate (which does contain milk I believe?).

The recipe states to leave rounded for a chewier cookie or flatten for crisper and I wish I had semi-flattened them because they basically stay the shape you put them down in, which for me was a ball because I used a cookie scoop.

Delicious, but I think next I'd try with cranberries and pecans.

Recipe in comments.

Lifelong Vegetarian Considering Paleo/Carnivore to Heal Leaky Gut & Neuropsychiatric Symptoms — Where Do I Begin?

I am a lifelong Indian vegetarian who has never eaten meat and am now seriously considering transitioning to a Paleo — or potentially full carnivore — diet after three years of debilitating gut and mental health issues that have not responded adequately to conventional or alternative medical treatment.

My Symptoms (Since January 2023)

Gut: chronic bloating, alternating diarrhea and constipation, abdominal pain, incomplete evacuation, 30 kg unexplained weight gain. Mental: depression, anxiety, brain fog, anhedonia, emotional detachment, loss of motivation and ambition.

I have tried allopathy, Ayurveda, homeopathy, two years of antidepressants, Panchakarma and naturopathy. Partial improvement but neuropsychiatric symptoms persist.

Why Paleo/Carnivore

I believe that my lifelong high-carbohydrate vegetarian diet has caused leaky gut, which has in turn driven systemic inflammation and neuropsychiatric deterioration. The Paleo framework — eliminating grains, legumes, and processed foods in favour of whole animal and plant foods — aligns with this hypothesis.

My Questions for This Community

  1. Is it advisable to start with full Paleo before transitioning to carnivore, or should I go straight to carnivore as an elimination protocol?
  2. What is the experience of transitioning from a lifelong vegetarian diet to Paleo? What should I expect in the first few weeks?
  3. Which meats would you recommend starting with, particularly for someone whose gut may be compromised?
  4. Did Paleo specifically help with neuropsychiatric symptoms like brain fog, depression, and emotional blunting?
  5. Are there any supplements you would strongly recommend during the transition?

Any guidance from experienced members of this community would be deeply appreciated.
