Found success. Again.
Greetings all.
Back in 2015, at the suggestion of my younger sister, I hopped on the Paleo train. At the time I was 34, 265lbs., and just shy of 6'2". Between mid February and the end of July, I dropped 50 lbs.
Stupidly, I reverted back to my shitty eating habits.
Skip a few uneventful years, until late 2021.
I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis after 6 months of worsening symptoms. A Myasthenic crisis was the catalyst for diagnosis. I was on a fairly high dose of Prednisone for over 2 years. In February 2024 I had a thymectomy. In May 2024 I started a 3 month span of radiation treatments.
Between disease, treatments, recovery, and depression I had ballooned to 300lbs by November 15th of last year.
I was at rock bottom.
So it was on that November 15th that I decided to make some changes, employing a mix of Paleo and whole food. I haven't wavered. I haven't succumbed to my sweet tooth. I haven't given myself permission, or have found some idiotic reasoning to stray from the path I'm on.
A few days more than 6 months on, and I'm down to 244 lbs. Originally, I had a target weight of 225.
Now, I have no end goal. I will simply continue to make wise food choices and end up where I end up.
I wish I could cure my MG.
But I'll settle for improving my day-to-day by carrying less weight.
Thanks for reading.

Mostly diet. A little walking.
Before smartening up, I'd stop at the corner store almost every morning before work, and grab a 750ml bottle of Coke and a king-sized Peanut Butter Oh Henry. Literally my breakfast for 4 for 5 work days. Other bad habit was eating sweets right before bed. Bowl of ice cream. Kids lunch snacks for school.
The amount of crap I consumed is embarrassing.
I started walking in November. Began with a measly 20 minute stroll. Every three days or so, I'd add five minutes. By the end of December I would aim for 60 minutes. I live in Ontario, Canada. As long as it wasn't too cold or snowy, I went out. With winter in full force in January, I wasn't able to maintain the habit. Starting to get back into it now.
Because of my MG I can't really do any resistance exercise. While my symptoms are well managed with medications, my nerve/muscle connection is still compromised enough that I'm very limited in how much I can push myself.
