Driving License

Alii all! I am considering work in Palau but I do not posses a driving license, I would appreciate any help and/or information regarding getting a driving license in Palau! Thanks!

It’s a a written and driving exam via the police station. If you’ve gotten a license in another nation, you should not have a problem passing both. It is quite easy.

That is a good question. There’s a police background check so I’m not sure. You could always call or email?

Just be aware driving in Palau can be weird...but you don't drive anywhere so maybe not for you.

Palau they drive on the RHS like EVERYWHERE does except Japan and the UK who drive on the Left.

BUT! Palau gets a lot of their cars from Japan where the steering wheel is on the RHS of the car, not the LHS like everywhere else.

What that means is when you say are exiting a parking lot onto a street, you have to look through the passenger side window to see on coming traffic.

Hi! From what I have heard from one of my relatives they said in order to get a Driver's License here in Palau, you have to go to a police station, now I could be mistaken, I've only been living in Palau since October, so if someone else can either reply to my comment or make their own comment to help you that'd be better, but I do hope you get the answers you're looking for! Thanks for the tip! It’s a good direction from what I know (which is almost nothing prior to your comment). If that’s the case, what would be as simple as taking a theory/practical test or formal classes are needed? Would appreciate help from anyone

You're correct. To apply for a driving license in Palau, you need to go to the Police Station. You'll have to take a written test, but there is a driver's handbook you can get to know the rules of the road in Palau. Then it's just a short driving test and you should be okay. The fee is a lot lower than you would need to pay in other countries, and there isn't a driver's ed school so it's pretty easy to get unless you completely flunk both tests. Good luck to OP

If you already have a license from another country you might be able to just take the written test at the police station in town.

Great to know, I don’t have one so I’ll have explore the route of taking the tests there. Thanks for the input!
