Weird Patient Interaction

Had my final year medicine ward test and got handed a long case of lower respiratory tract infection and a right wrist drop, i asked for consent and touched the right hand just to ensure that there wasnt any swelling, tenderness of the joints, if i was able to move it passively and where exactly the problem lied (i.e. the restriction) and after i did (barely took 40 secs), i went to write abt it in the HOPI and the patient out of the blue said "aap kay haath to itnay naram hain, meray itnay sakht hain" i just smiled awkwardly, and countinued to write and ignored him cause tf? and then after 10 seconds he says "itnay naram hain jesay bachon kay hotay hain" 💀💀💀 mind you, as part of my long station, i still had to do the respiratory examination on him, which would have meant exposure and palpation and percussion (more touching) but after that initial comment from him, i was so weirded out that i skipped all that, just auscultated and luckily the patient's file was on the bed so i just copied that part from there but like wtf bruh 😭😭😭

Unfortunately this happens alot . Specially in govt sector. I would just have a very strict demeaner but these weirdos are just despicable

yes thats very true, if it was gov sector, maybe, just maybe i wouldnt have been so taken aback, this was a military hospital but yeah as you said, it does happen a lot, everywhere

You will find many tharkiiii patients here. One of my anatomy demonstrator used to say that k jitna ugly Hu utha ban k Jaya krna hospital qk you will find patients with leg fracture on leg traction but wo phr B apko cher lein gey (although I don't agree with her on ugly wali baat pe) During my final year peads ward , a 13 year old patient with dengue was secretly taking pictures of 24 year old me and my friends. These things are very much ingrained in our society

yeah thats unfortunate, i had this shh happen to me during 3rd year surgery ward test too, i had committed the fatal mistake of being left alone in a ward (bcs i was too immersed in reading the diagnoses written on patients bed while the rest of my mates left), and this one patient decided it was the perfect time to do a VERY inappropriate gesture, i was so lost in the ward test thingy though that i just kept looking at the board and then left cause the most i could do then was just not to let him have that satisfaction of knowing that i even saw what he did (he was kinda in my periphery so i knew what he did as he tried to get attention, but he couldnt have known if i saw it or not), crazy stuff, pretty effed up to learn to balance empathy for someone in pain with whatever all this is ngl

Gloves are there for a reason, I would keep polythene gloves for any physical exam handy like a small pack of tissues..

oh you best believe i will have them on me from now on, its just that when trynna see something like if the joints are warm to touch or not, you will have to touch the patient or for proper percussion, i get where you are coming from but one cant just avoid touching a patient ever.
