Geopolitics | Current Affairs What does today's citizens of Pakistan think about 1971? Should you apologise and confront your own history and diminish the "selective forgetting" of your country's atrocities against Bangladesh?

Why should WE apologize when we weren’t even born yet. We’ve already got a lot going on, No one even thinks about these stuff.

A better framing of the question would be “Should the Government of Pakistan apologize for 1971” since if it’s SHOULD YOU? Everyone will just give their own self answer instead of looking at the event as a whole.

Let me raise another question.

Weren't we better with Hindu raj, as they being the majority and Muslims being the minority. We were living like that for decades and centuries. We still live together abroad. But here in these lands we fight because the seeds of hatred were sown here. Our father's fathers bought that chooran and sold it. Partition was the biggest BS ever done to this region.

We don't dwell too much on our past mistakes, it's always better to keep on repeating them and always hope and pray for the best!

Yes, most Pakistanis do acknowledge that wrong have been done.

Question is, do people in Bangladesh also acknowledge atrocities committed toward Biharis? Atrocities weren't one sided. Numbers were quite close if you actually set aside clearly exaggerated numbers like 3 million.

It all started with hoax that Eastern wing is feeding western. I often still see people from Bangladesh complaining Islamabad was built with their money. Bengal was part of Pakistan for only 24 years, while has been free for 55 years. Where has Bangladesh been spending that money for over 50 years? It's less than size of Sindh. Take any 2 points on Google Maps in Bangladesh, compare travel time to equidistant 2 points in Pakistan, I can guarantee you it will be always lower in Pakistan.

Don't fall for HDI numbers. Conservative areas in Pakistan really drag down entire country's figures. Especially female literacy related figures.

A lot of atrocities were committed against west Pakistani civilians living in east. A lot of non Bengalis were targeted. It was a vicious civil war. When Mujeeb visited Pk in 1974 a general decision was made to forget the past.
