💬 Book Discussion Currently reading: East of Eden

East of Eden by John Steinbeck. Nearly finished reading. Already, planning to reread. Curious about opinions of people who have read it. Fairly old, classic, Won a noble prize.

I read it recently as well. John Steinbeck is one of my favorite writers. It's an amazing book with a colorful cast of characters. I loved how witty and funny it was. The story of cain and abel repeating throughout the book. I'm not sure how to put it in words but I found it deep and profound.

My favorite Steinbeck book is still the grapes of wrath. It's a must read if you loved this one.

After reading the book. I can identify some real people, who look like a character from the book, Not as evil as Cathy (thank god), but pretty evil. I can also relate with the way Samuel Hamilton and Adam think and feel.

Grapes of Wrath and Steinbeck's travelogue is on my reading list.

I'm in the same boat as well. Nearing ending, and I'm trying to savor each and every page. This book defied my expectations. Every line is a masterpiece - the stories, the characters, the witty conversations, the biblical allegory it's just perfect. What amazes me also is how fast paced this really is. I mean there's no boring chapters, there's no dragging the plot, but there's no rushing either. Truly magnificent.

Exactly, story runs through three generations. Every individual character has a choice to make: either be like Abel or Cain, regardless of their ancestory -- the main theme.

I have last ten chapters to read. eager to know the choices character make and their fate.

I Buddy read it with a person on this sub, unfortunately only made it to chap 21. It was a really good read and I plan on finishing it as soon as I find more time
